Polyend Play / +

Got the Play this week and so far I’m loving it. Time for music is really limited and I was finding it difficult to motivate myself at the end of the day to do anything. The Play has helped with this and one of my kids is enjoying it too!

Speaking of the Oxi….

I think the best thing Polyend could do for the play would be to add a mode where the entire grid represents one track, similar to the oxi. That way notes could be input by hand very quickly and it would make live jamming and making melodies much more fluid.

can’t remember if I asked but can you change sample per step on the play, like on the digitakt?

Yes…

Yup, definitely different kazoo samples per step. I’ve tried.

My circumstances are very similar and I am finding that every time I sit down with the Play I’m able to go back to the project that I was working on and add a new part, bringing tracks closer to completion. The lack of sound design facilities is helps to speed this process along for me. While I love endlessly fucking with sonics, it consumes a lot of my music time, and I’m grateful that this box doesn’t go there in the way that an Elektron box does…… Even though I love it, love it, love it. I’m looking forward to getting whole structures down in the Play and going back to create more texture, etc. It feels like this workflow will be more productive for me.

I just received my Play in the post, and am also a little surprised at how green the display seems to look.
It’s certainly not yellow like in your example, but has quite a heavy greenish tinge that I’m not sure is normal or not.

Can someone confirm?

See pic here.

Your display looks a little green too, perhaps it’s normal.

Didn’t know anything like this existed! How long does it power the play for? I want to get one to use with mine!

Easy 5-6 hours

Enjoy

are you guys able to record on all tracks simultaneously?

Caught between this and the Digitakt. If you were doing a Jazz Improvisation piece which would be better?

Mine screen looks the same

Been playing this gem of a box for the last 2 hours or so and really enjoying how immediate it is. Had a jam going within 20mins and barely glanced at the quick start guide.

One thing I’m noticing I’d love to see added is a way to explode out a single track to show all the notes playing up and down across the whole grid. This would make creating melodic patterns on this thing an absolute joy, rather than turning the Note knob or using the secondary View option.

Thank you! One more random question, can you use it and lay the play flat on a desk? Like is it bulky where once it’s plugged into the port the play can’t lay flat?

I can’t quite tell from your pic.

Spent a bit of time looking at the Play over the last few days, but i’m still on the fence given it’s about £100-£150 more than I really would have expected to pay for it.

I absolutely love the Tracker and can forgive it’s lo(wer)-fi sound and mono sampler given the budget price, it’s ease of use and fun factor, but this is a more premium price point, so, does this have a more premium sound quality? Looks like this is also mono and converts samples to the same bitrate, so i’m thinking maybe this sounds like the Tracker?

Looks like there’s no rendering that I can see from the specs too?

There’s a small sleeve on the male end of the usbc battery pack.

If you were to cut it off/remove it then it would sit completely flush.

Cheers

I thought i’d seen all the Play videos (well most of those that came up in a Tube search), but hadn’t realised Benn Jordan had made a second video. Have to admit that it sounds great in this (and it’s a cool arty video), but i’m thinking that the sounds aren’t directly out of the box?

People have been saying it doesn’t export the tracks/stems, so has he solo’d and recorded each of the 8 tracks from his projects into his DAW and processed them? There’s no explaination for the finished sound and he’s typically upfront.
