This should all blow over soon cause apparently there’s a new TE product launching tomorrow.
Fwiw I still love the play. I was very excited when I got it, I think it’s super cool for what it does well! Very unique and fun. I don’t record tracks or anything, but for experimenting and having fun, it’s great and does feel like play!
Yeah, Medusa was my first and only time. I’ve tried the tracker and play that my friend owns for months at a time so I do have experience with them, the tracker is leagues better than the Play.
Even the Medusa launched at a ridiculous price. $1200 I believe and a year later it dropped to $899 and less than a year later down to $700. It had support from 2018 to 2021 when it was sunset at the beginning of that year. Luckily I got in when it was $899 and not $1200… but $1200 is Analog Four prices (at the time) and that thing has been getting updates since 2012 (even if people think there should be more updates it’s still be largely better supported).
It just further goes to question why buy from them when there are other companies that are thinking further down the line and doing incredible stuff with older tech.
The synthfluencers will make videos on the controversy anyway because people have ridiculously low standards for the content they consume and the videos will get clicks. The NPCs will continue to shower praise on their favorite content creators, perpetuating the ego fueled echo chambers and parasocial relationships on the streaming platforms.
The Medusa is pretty awesome though. The vibe I get from Discord is that the team at Polyend are just quick to release because they excited to get the gear out. They are passionate about music, and then it backfires on them because the gear is buggy. I’ve been a user since their drum gear, and they really have always seemed like an inventive group. A couple of them used to be in Discord, and always seemed friendly and genuinely listened to feedback. They’ve been fairly responsive on Backstage. I think if they released gear at slightly lower prices and said to expect bugs as everything is in beta people would be more understanding.
Right. I hope it’s cheap so that people’s heads don’t explode.
The entire “synthfluencer” thing is a farce
This kind of toxic rhetoric on this forum has gotten worse and worse lately. I find myself spending less time on Elektronauts. It’s depressing.
It think it’s time to go Dirtywave
People talk smack about synthfluencers but probably do not remember the good old days of buying decisions being based on nothing but product marketing materials and waiting for Sound on Sound to publish a review.
If only there was a way to see the product in action before buying!
haha yea we were at the mercy of SOS mag back in the 90s
I hadn’t a clue what I was doin.
Valid point. But at big retailers you get a 30 day money back deal these days. Which is far more valuable than any video or written review
lol so I just learned that I’m an “NPC” because I like Benn Jordan. Y’all need to go outside and touch grass. This thread is absolutely unhinged.
Seriously, though – if you watch a youtube video and immediately run out to buy something and you end up not liking it, let me point out that the problem is not with “”“synthfluencers”“”. The problem is your rampant consumerism. I like the youtubers that get constant vitriolic hate around here (Andrew Huang, Benn Jordan, RMR) and I’ve never been “”“influenced”“” into buying something I don’t like, which I suspect is true for most of us.
Life was better then, just staring at pictures!
But at least back then you could go to a music store and try some gear out yourself.
Definitely not. In suburban Ohio in the mid-90s there was absolutely no way I could try the new synths that were coming out. I had to buy stuff on faith and hope that it sounded good when it arrived. I bought a lot of instruments I regretted back then – much more so than nowadays.
My comment is not directed towards you or viewers of any specific YT channel. It’s informed by the hundreds of hagiographic comments I see under the videos of YT “synth culture” types of accounts. I don’t watch Benn Jordan vids. I have no dog in this fight. It’s the overall state of hobbyist synth culture (this forum and lines excluded) that sickens me. I have a family connection to the founder of Gearslutz/Gearspace and have shared similar thoughts with them. Before YT comment drama there was message board drama.
…u sure about that?
Fair point! I grew up in London so back in the 90s there were music shops all over the place.
Thankfully we now have the internet to preview and learn from one another
Sad to see so much hate towards content creators when the real problem is coming from somewhere else.
It’s embarrassing and outright insane that there are users sending YouTubers threats and wishing them harm. This type of thing causes serious stress to those being impacted and their loved ones. No matter how unlikely it is that something would happen, the thought alone is enough to make even the strongest minds uneasy.
Benn being in Polyend’s pocket, a shill or whatever some people might think is beyond the point and distracts from the fact that Polyend is making very questionable decisions. All the hate towards YouTubers just clouds the real issue.
That real issue being that Polyend has once again proven to be a company that should be avoided. Their history of delivering bad and unfinished products is truly unprecedented.
Avoid this company if you value your money. They will do this again users will once again be the ones left holding the bag.
