Just when I thought I was done lusting over reverb pedals Poly went ahead and released this amazingly good sounding little device. The verbs are seriously good, and lots of opportunities for people to share their own IRs. Impressed by the plates and amazed how good the spring verb sounds.
I am also looking out for this, out of stock everywhere at the moment, be nice to see a few more user reviews
Yeah, surprised there isn’t more buzz. Andersons had a video with it and were blown away by its sound. Think they placed it as one of their top five releases of 2023. Although most aren’t getting their hands on it until 2024.
Is it because it’s “just” a bunch of IRs? People see it as a couple of wavs they could load in their DAWs and get the same result?
I good Convolution Reverb Plugin like Altiverb 8 costs a lot more than this pedal (I know there are cheaper, but this is high end), but the real benefit is guitarist who play live/in bands…As a broad generalisation I would say Guitarists like pedals more than computers! In my opinion a pedal board with an amp is still way more fun and immediate that using a computer (but you could get in to the hardware Vs Software debate here so I will leave it at that…I also have a lot of Eurorack hardware when VCV rack would suffice for many)
I’m a bit confused by this pedal, as the same IRs are already available in polys own beebo pedal (if I remember correctly, I don’t have the beebo anymore), which can do so many more things.
This is more streamlined, bit more expanded, and supposedly with updated processors and outputs. I had a Beebo too, but the interface was too convoluted for my attention span. Obviously I wasn’t the only one who felt that way, so this was created. First two batches are sold out, so I guess my original statement isn’t completely true.
Me 3 (the eurorack version) ended up mainly using it for the reverbs then wanted the HP back…as a guitarist pedal it needs to be simple to use (in the dark) and near indestructible- if they do that (and it looks like they have- and no 30 second boot time I assume!) they will have a winner. I think it should be closer to £250 as a pedal …perhaps when they stop selling out!
it really sounds amazing but to be honest, from a guitar standpoint, it actually makes me want a universal audio dream more than the poly verbs, even if only just barely.
I can totally see that. Also something about knobs instead of touch interface just feels right. Although I’m sure you could midi a faderfox to the Verb.
yeah, you could tell he was struggling a little bit with the touch interface but I kept thinking that the only reason he’s getting such a nice, fat, round end result is because of how that dream pedal sounds at the end of the chain. It’s really a toss up whether anything before the amp or cabinet sim will actually sound good recorded, especially trying to represent it in the way that you would hear it using it in person with an amp. That pedal really shines because you can hear it sound good in the recording.
I think the verbs pedal definitely has a pretty diverse range, I probably wouldn’t have much use for half of that, but it’s nice to have it all there if you want to try and find a space for some of the more out there stuff. I did like how the banks are all distinctly different, and strangely, I particularly liked the “adverbs” which were just basic representations of real spaces, but again that’s where the dream pedal helped it shine, I think.
