Politically assaulted

just play out loud this song I made a few months ago in your shop when a redhat comes along

I feel for you. Here in Germany it is mirrored. If you don’t believe in the Greta Hype or Antifa Hype people stare at you like they want to put you into a concentration camp…

i think this is a myth. whats wrong about having an argument? just stand for your political beliefs. when others dont agree with them , thats ok, thats democracy. and there will always be people around that dont agree with you. and if they dont, you are not a victim, you just have an opposite opinion as they have, but thats life.

I’m gonna print myself a t-shirt with a simple slogan.

ā€œI don’t care what you think or why it makes you a martyr.ā€

That should deal with both poles on the scale of bullshit talkers.

Now let’s get back to the music…

Just change your name badge to Adolf and grow a short moustache. Then stare into the dudes soul.

No they donā€˜t. Because there is no greta nor antifa hype. There are real climate change problems and there are real problems with stupid fascists and their recent terror attacks.

Kein mensch tut dir was.

A common belief amongst extreme political groups is that they identify their perceived opponents as being too stupid, too brainwashed or too corrupt to see ā€˜reality’ or ā€˜mission’ as they do, believing themselves to be more intelligent, more informed and righteous bearers of the truth.

Hopefully that is a sufficiently diplomatic way of summing up the political mess in many countries right now, so as to offend nobody as they’ll assume I’m criticising their opponents and not themselves!

Nothing you can do really. I always answer with questions that I know they’ll struggle with. But asked in a way that makes it look like I’m questioning myself.

Agreed. While I believe reelecting trump would be a democratic approval of climate collapse and neofeudalism, I recognize that a lot of his support has different echo chambers and media pundits than my own and for reasons
different than my own support him. I don’t agree with them but they have their reasons, some of them not all terrible. Part of all the issues we have today is that political discourse is in a terrible state.

To the OP: that sucks. I would say just be respectfully neutral and keep repeating that you would prefer not to talk about it.

Desperate times. People are desperate.

It is an interesting lesson in how history is made.

In 50 years time when people look back on this part of history, one side or the other will have been the long term victor and shaped the narrative, the arguments of the other will be lost, minimised; even maligned.

The same must have been the case over many tracts of history that we think we understand today. Civilisation and its ups and downs are a lot more complicated when you are living through them rather than reading about them decades later in a book.

Nothing you can do I suppose…
Become an expatriate maybe. Although we have the same type of idiots here, minus the haircut :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Calling people for example communists and/or idiots doesnt help at all.

Calling 1%s who don’t give a damn about anything except their portfolios sociopaths is fine.

I’m surrounded by racist rednecks in the Arizona Desert. I can hear my 70 year old hoarder neighbor outside spewing racist crap to whoever happens to come by.
If I don’t think they are open to change (e.g. wearing endless Trump gear proudly) then I’m polite but short.

Just say ā€œI have too much going on in my life right now to pay attention to all thatā€ or just smile and say as little as possible. When they realize you aren’t adding to the conversation they’ll stop talking to you.

If it’s just you and one customer tell them sorry, I need to unload some stock in the back before it gets busy.

I believe it’s good to come back to basics. What do we all want / need ?
A roof, some food, peace, love and education I guess. Everyone needs this, whatever the country. From here goes a path where we’re all equal on Earth.
Either the person in front of you can show a little compassion, and you can keep going.
Or they don’t and they are not worth your time unfortunately.

It’s sad to see there are so many ignorant people on Earth in 2020.

On the original question:

Nodding and repeating ā€œI hear youā€ while offering nothing of substance usually gets them to desist more quickly than any sort of engagement. I zone out while I do this; I might hear, but I don’t listen. I think ā€œI hear youā€ is a good response, because most of the time, that’s what people want; whether I want to hear them or not, they want to be heard.

I read that lots of pro Trump voters leave their state California because they think it is too liberal. Some expressed that they feel discriminated for being pro Trump … Scary times

If I would live in California I would probably say ā€œyeah, so let them go go goā€, but this also shows the deep segregation which is taking place in the US. Trump states, liberal states…, feels for me like this could lead to some more serious confrontations if people don’t wake up and realize how ignorant and brainwashed they all become…, but I doubt that this will happen, unfortunately.

The ā€œwinnerā€ does not matter so much as the ā€œsideā€ that controls the media and the history education.

It’s painful sometimes. Other times it’s funny. But most of the time it’s just sad.
