Problem is, it can’t sample. According to everything I saw online and in the manual, sampling is as easy as holding record and any pad. But when I do, I get a flashing “nope” on the LCD.
I tried factory reset (inserting batteries and holding write + pattern), I tried erasing patterns and recording to blank pads – always get “noPE”.
The Lock thingy is NOT broken off. I also tried to short these two pads on the chance that the lock tooth is there but is not connecting. Still, no effect.
I don’t know anything about these devices, but I’d try drag and drop sample loading using their web tool for sample creation and confirm that there is not a larger problem involving the device memory or something like that. If you can successfully load samples using the web tool and still nothing from the physical sampling, I’d probably try inserting a line-in cable and try various experiments like turning it on with the cable inserted and then remove it and try sampling with the mic or attempt to engage sampling with the line-in cable inserted and no source.
If you aren’t getting any results at that point I’d probably return or exchange it. You can definitely try their tech support but I have never once heard someone say they had a good experience troubleshooting with TE’s customer support so it depends on how patient you are.
Based on what you’re saying it sounds more like a defect than user error and based on that thread you linked, nope is only supposed to show when 16 is pressed in combination with record so it does sound more like an issue with the tactile button or something on the hardware end, especially if you can load and play samples from their dedicated sample loader tool.
Looks like it’s defective. Never had this issue with mine.
Have you tried loading someone else’s backup?
I had some questions and they responded in a couple days or something. Can’t complain.
Also there’s no web tool for the 35, you can either record directly or load a backup.
Yeah, I think I’ll do that. It was a b-day gift, but my buddy has the receipt and all. I’ll play with it over the weekend, but I think I really just wanted to confirm it’s a lemon.
It’s understandable. You don’t want to be rude in complaining about a gift without trying first, but if you were to just dismiss the problem instead of following up with them about it, then it’s kind of a waste of their efforts and ultimately their money in giving a gift.
Hope it’s easily exchanged then, and happy birthday.
