Plexus 4 midi router, splitter, merger, filter…

Can the midihub split tempos on the fly like Plexus? I really like my Acme4 because it let’s me cut the tempo in half with the flip of a switch, but other than that it doesn’t do much else that I use.

I haven’t done this myself but based on the editor (which you can download and play around with even without a Midihub btw) it looks like you can bind a MIDI controller button to toggle TEMPO DIV pipe thing, should work as you describe.

For those interested, here’s a status update at the 1 month marker from the announcement. I’m also hoping to get some feedback on the inclusion of Filter Types for the final build. Thanks! Joe

In case anybody else pre-ordered one of these and was curious when they’re shipping, I just saw this update from last Tuesday.

Looks like they should (hopefully) be out by the end of this week.

Looks like this will be delivered on time and with all promised functionality.

I can also recommend the CLOCKstep : MULTI from the same company.

Perfect timing!

I’m just moving into a new room and it will be nice to integrate this from the get go :sunglasses:

Since you guys are on top of this, I wanted to let you know that I didn’t get any of the units shipped today (the 15th)

I’m at the point where I’m just doing some housekeeping in the firmware, final bug hunting and double checking everything. Every unit is built (they have been for about a week), the packaging is done and they are just waiting for me to flash the firmware onto them. I now expect the first ones to go out the door on Monday the 17th, but I’ll update you here.

My initial projection for release was Late June/Early July which I revised to Early June and then specifically mentioned the 15th. I really wish I could have hit the revised 15th target, but can I still feel good about beating my original estimate? :upside_down_face:

Oh hey, I hope it didn’t seem like I was sharing that blog post here to scrutinize. Just wanted to share that there was an estimated shipping date. Looking forward to receiving mine, but certainly not pressed at all; it’ll get here when it gets here :slightly_smiling_face:.

Thanks for the updates though! The communication is much appreciated, as is your diligence and decision to ship when the product is ready and not just because of arbitrary deadlines. You absolutely should feel good about that.

Oh, not at all! I know you were just sharing what you saw and I appreciate it.

Shipping has begun. If you check the email you received when you made the purchase, you should have a link to your shopping cart which will have the shipping details. If yours isn’t going out on Monday’s shipment, it’ll be going out on Tuesday. Thanks again for your trust in pre-ordering Plexus.

Next is to get documentation posted before units get into peoples hands!

Documentation is ready, just in the nick of time!

I just saw this in the manual, and I’m excited about the possibilities:

Poly Chain
Distribute Notes from 1 Input to any of the 4 Outputs in round-robin
order. Each Input has its own independent Poly Chain engine.

Thanks. I’ve also left space in the Preset to expand on the Poly Chain mode, so we’ll see how it goes with this version of Poly Chain and then perhaps add other modes. Each Input would still be independent, so they could each run different Poly Chain modes (in theory). Possible modes would be things like random order, reset on release and perhaps even a defined sequence.

Are you also planning poly chain over different MIDI channels on a single physical output?

Seems like that’s what the Poly Chnl filter does: “Spread notes out from 1 MIDI channel across multiple MIDI channels in a round-robin fashion.”

Looking forward to playing my Syntakt like an eight-voice polysynth.

Confirming what @thesimplemachine said. Poly Chnl is a Filter that does this. You can take 1 MIDI Channel and effectively “poly chain” it on up to 16 MIDI Channels of your choosing, all on a single output.

It always amazes me how fast things arrive from the US all the way to Europe compared to from within Europe

This is a nice solid helper. The interface is pretty intuitive. Routing, merging and filtering are a piece of cake. The manual is short and well written. The device has a power on/off switch (!). I personally like that it is not powered via USB. Thanks to this, it can power a Haken Audio Continuumini effortlessly through its USB host port - so it can also be used as a USB MIDI host.

Build quality is solid, being slightly on the heavier side. It is not cheap (had to pay 50 eur of import duty on top of the nice introductory price), but it is tremendously flexible, and it does not require any computer for configuration, which for me is everything for this kind of device. Thank you @jmkmusic for designing such a useful device!

I will add that drawing power from DC is practical, as long as the Plexus is not connected to a computer. I wonder whether given a low power mode akin to the Linnstrument’s could make the Plexus run on USB power when connected to a computer (at the sacrifice of losing USB host functionality). However, imo that would be an edge use case because the point of the Plexus is the independence from a computer device

The biggest power draw from Plexus (other than whatever might be connected to the USB Host) are the LEDs. You can control the brightness level of the LEDs in case you want to also power another USB Device that requires more juice.

By design, Plexus should not be trying to draw any power when connected to the computer.

I won’t make a habit of posting this unless someone asks, but I wanted all you kind people to know that Plexus:4 is now in stock for the first time. It’s been a journey, might be time for a short vaca!
