Plan to buy a new iMac ? Wait !!!

Apple next keynote will be probably on June the 5th and they will probably announced a new iMac because it’s long overdue. Apparently they will switch from Intel to AMD (probably The AMD Zen processor)… so probably no kaby lake (and no Cannonlake) on the new iMac…

Apple’s last iMac update came back in October 2015, when it introduced a Retina-class screen resolution to the smaller Macs for the first time and equipped the larger models with new Skylake processor chips; a refresh to the line feels overdue.

There was some talk of a new Mac Pro too, but so far nothing to suggest it happening. The Mac Pro hasn’t been upgraded since 2013 and still costs an outrageous amount of $$$. Thankfully they stopped selling the Thunderbolt displays - they were charging $1000US for them and they only had USB 2.0 ports.

Perhaps it’s time to reactivate this thread – except this time the rumor is for Apple to switch from the Intel processor to the ARM processor. The ARM processor is what is used in their iPad and iPhone. There could be a variety of reasons to do this. (And plenty of reasons not – like it being a major disruption.)

So maybe this thread title applies now, a little over three years later.

Apple set to ditch Intel? – Sound on Sound

These articles all suggest June 22nd is doomsday.

It also got talked about on Sonic State:

Plus – What would this mean for Overbridge on the Mac?

This sounds like an opposite move from the Windows to Surface Pro

Here’s a wikipedia page showing the history with CPU’s on the Mac.

Side note: The 68000 is the ancestor to the ColdFire processor that Elektron uses in most of their systems.
