My wife is moving to Edinburgh for her studies starting in September, and she’s hoping to head there a month early to settle in and explore the city a bit.
(her main accommodation from September onward is already sorted)
We’re looking for a cheap place for her to stay throughout August — ideally with a female or group of women, if possible.

If I was doing this myself, I’d go for somewhere like Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel. They’re likely to have single-sex dorms (not been there for a few years, so can’t quite remember). I personally love youth hostels, but I’m an extravert who doesn’t sleep much so they suit me well. They’re not good for everyone, particularly people who need a good nights sleep every night.
Yes, Edinburgh Uni lets out the student accommodation at Pollock Halls over the summer.
Same might go for Herriot Watt and Napier (…ah, fond but somewhat hazy memories…)
