PL-5 Decksaver much too tight

So I received mine, and indeed you have to press a bit on one side for it to fit, but is that really an issue? It holds well that way, and honestly, I don’t think it’s tight enough to alter the Tonverk.

There appear to be manufacturing tolerances. My replacement fits perfectly without me having to bend anything. My first unit only fit with some force.

Do you still have both, or did they ask you to send the first one back?

I had to send the PL-5 back and then got a replacement.

Did the replacement fit? I just got one from Moog Audio in Canada that took effort to put on. I was told to send it back and they’ll let me know when they receive a redesigned cover from Elektron.

I haven’t had any luck, even the decksaver that arrived today is very tight, it’s a push-fit, or it’s just a little crooked. So many worries, this Tonverk… :joy:

Returned the non-fitting cover and the store said all their others are also incorrect size. My only option was to get a refund or have a non-fitting cover. Kinda sucks.

At first glance this dust cover is ticking all of the boxes ….

I’m keeping the second one, but if you can still choose the refund, consider that on Etsy there are some nice alternatives

I ordered one an mine was much too tight too. I’m posting some images here I took to send to my retailer to show them the problem in case it’s helpful for anyone else. The front and back edges are curved inward by quite a bit:

So there is a way to tell visually if it’s going to have the issue. If you can see one in person before you buy, or if your retailer is willing to work with you to check, you can possibly get one that doesn’t have the problem (assuming they have one).

In my case, after I mentioned how tight the first one was, my retailer picked one out for me that wasn’t too curved. The second one is snug, but not super tight like the first one, so I consider it good enough.

More like nicking all the edges of the boxes, lol

Mine is almost straight, all four sides are shown in the photos, but the Decksaver still doesn’t fit; I can only lean it slightly askew from the top or bottom. When I got it, there was a discount on Music Store, which I used to get the TV and the Decksaver, but I live in another country, and it takes a couple of weeks between returning mine and exchanging it for a new one… I gave up, they offered me a refund, but even if I buy it elsewhere, I’d have to pay full price, and that would be a risk again. I have other Elektrons and I prefer having the same Decksavers, but it’s good that this discussion is happening. If anyone else is interested in purchasing this Decksaver… think carefully!

“Almost” being the operative word here. You can see the curve in your picture 4. If you can see it at that angle it’s probably worse than the first one I got! I took my picture sighting almost straight down that side to accentuate the curve.

Yes, there’s one side that’s more curved than the others. I think these decksavers are always a gamble. I have a few, and the larger ones are never perfect. I have one for an APC40 MK2 that has the same problem. It needs to be fitted, and these things are all expensive. It would be nice to never have to deal with these problems.

100% agree, you would think polycarbonate molding is a solved problem…

You still have tolerances. It’s not a rocket engine. You can’t hold plastic to as tight a fit as metal.

Mine also doesn’t fit. But I kept it and I think it will stretch over time… feels now better, but still not perfect fit as other decksavers I have.

I bought one and had to return it, as it was way too tight. I could see this being a good thing maybe if I was planning on packing Tonverk around a lot, but that is not the plan.

The shop I bought it from said they tried the rest of their stock and they all fit similarly.

Hopefully the next run of these fit better.

I don’t know if it will help, but I reported the problem to Elektron, maybe they will talk to the decksavers company and the next buyers will be happier than us
