Pitch slide / portamento

So after playing around with lots of stuff in chromatic mode, I feel like I’m missing something in not being able to get the synth engines to slide the pitch how I would like.

From what I can gather, the slide function doesn’t work on the note trigger (for example if you play some different notes in chromatic mode), but only works if you edit the Tuning setting in either the Synth Page or the Sample Page, depending on what is making the sound.

Is this correct?

If so then

a) this is a bit annoying as I have to go in and manually dial in the tuning for a note slide - doubly so because if I’ve played a line in Chromatic mode then I need to take into account the fact the note trigger might be different from the root value

and

b) the Tuning setting on the synth engines doesn’t seem to be done in semitones, so this makes things pretty difficult to get right.

Someone please tell me I’m missing something obvious, because I fee like it shouldn’t be this hard to get notes sounding good and in tune.

Also, I don’t want this to sound like a whinging thread - this machine does so many amazing things, and if the pitch slide function is somewhat less than ideal, so be it! I just want to know how people make sweet, slidy bass lines!

The Rytm doesn’t have note slide, the only way to achieve it is to use parameter slide with the pitch parameters for synth/sample. This would require using pitch to change notes rather than chromatic mode. This is typical of drum machines since the trigs are really intended to be hits rather than notes.
