Just a quick question. How can pitch bend level of pitch wheel be set up? How can I set up even if the pitch of a sound can be altered by moving pitch wheel?
Thanks.

In Sound Settings menu
Either do Fn + any Sound Page button
or
Fn+[Sound] and scroll until you see Pitch Mod
Next to where the Modulation wheel settings are
If you press on an encoder you can see the current value(s)
So you say that this is managed on the Pitch Settings menu? I also suspected this, but as far as I remember I got pitch bending by moving pitch wheel even if all of the five modulation parameters were set to 0 on that page.
Removes it fine for me on A4
Will check it again then. Thx.
You were right, the OSC Pitch Mod is the key. Thanks.
However this Pitch Mod is gradual instead of being continuous. Shouldnāt it change the pitch in an āinterpolatedā way?
I donāt quite follow, do you mean that itās not āfineā enough (ie 7bit as opposed to 14bit resolution) or are you commenting on the āprofleā of the variation against pitch bend value ?
So moving the pitch bend or the Level knob on the setup page the pitch jumps from one pitch to the other and thereās no linear transient.
What happens on the setup page is not so important
The 14bit pitch bend MIDI input will be so fine in practice that youād struggle to hear any steps.
Whilst setting up in that menu, those encoders are just for quick adjustments/auditioning ⦠youāll only hear the pitch bend effect when sending Pitch bend midi data to the unit
Between min and max pitch bend position there should be circa 16000 steps
I use AK, but I think the joystick on it also sends MIDI data to the synth engine. However I get the same jumps with joy as well as the preview knob.
Even when played normally, once the settings menu is closed ?
Okay, i just tried this from an Init (track + clear) sound and it sounded okay enough
I adjusted the default 2 semitones bend amount on PMX to 12 and tried it with my Novation Remote SL which sends out healthy pitch bend 14data and it sounded ā¦
horrible and steppy, inside and outside the Settings Menu
So, well spotted
TBH, i rarely use the external keyboard (and pitch bend) so i have no idea if this is a recent glitch
Perhaps @Ess can comment if this is known or expected behaviour ?
Iām on 1.23B and i used a DIN Midi connection, it was only really possible to hear the stepping when the pitch bend amount was increased
I know thereās a parallel discussion about how the A4K does not process high resolution Modwheel data which many devices support and produce, but iād be pretty shocked if the Pitchbend was hamstrung to 7bit ⦠a quick forum search revealed nothing
I experienced the same with filter. Set up a high resonance on a percussive sound to lengthen the sound, and then moved the frequency knob. The frequency had distinct effects on the sound by every number between 1-127 instead of continuously opening/closing the filter.
Is that using external control because that would surprise me, internally the filter control can be set to NRPN and is 14bit in resolution (16000+ steps)
BTW - as we havenāt heard back from Elektron here, have you submitted a report for an official response ?
Regarding to the pitch thing I sent a mail, and they responded that this was intentional, as Pitch Bend range was 1-127.
However it is strange to me with the filter. Where can NRPN be set? Can it be changed internally?
Yeah - somewhere in the settings youāll find a toggle to let it interact at standard 7bit res or exploit NRPN - that certainly affects external control, itād be possible and a bit undermining if this also constrained internal twiddling - Iāve never disabled NRPN so I canāt comment
But thatās related to external midi communication. However Iām using Keysā own knobs
After checking the manual it seems to be possible to configure data entry knobs to operate like MIDI sources internally as well. I have to check the settings on my gear. Thanks for the info.
First of all, I was wrong. I did the tests on Rytm
Not a chance. To be honest it was a mistake from me to expect that knobs work in a different way internally than by sending messages out to external gears. I still experience the same issue regardless of MIDI settings.
I checked filter settings on Keys as well. I have to admit, that filter frequency is much more granulated on Keys than on Rytm. On Keys the frequency knob has to be turned much more to change the value even by 1 than on Rytm. This is more āanalogishā I think on Rytm thereās no need for such sophisticated filter sweeping when setting frequency cut value manual especially by short percussion sounds.
