wait, can’t you fit some wrapped up (for insulation) 18650s or similar in between those boards?

as long as there’s no overheating while charging - you should be okay; also I saw many 18650s are available with coin-sized charge controller board attached that has thermal sensor too.
There might be slab batteries available to fill the bill; perhaps measure the actual space inbetween boards first?
ive already got a (3) 21700 battery pack with a board attached ready to be used… originally for my digitakt but if i can insert it between the circuit boards safely i might do that
