Pickup Machines and setting the tempo using a click track. Also syncing OT to an Alesis HD24?

Hi there, I’m looking to use my OT for a very specific purpose.

Basically I want to use it as a looper except I want the tempo to be set by a click track that’s coming in on input A.
I need the OT to follow any tempo changes (within a song and between songs). I have experimented with getting the OT to follow a click track using pickup machines. It seems like it can initially guess the tempo (not with 100% accuracy mind you) but then to detect any further tempo changes I need to physically stop the sampling and start it again.

Is it possible for the OT to follow a click track properly?

I’m also wondering if it is possible to have an Alesis HD24 (my band uses this for click tracks/backing tracks) dictate the tempo to an OT?

I’m new to MTC and different pieces of hardware interacting in general. Might it be a case of using something that turns timecode into tempo changes???

I would really appreciate any help with this!

Cheers,

Sc

You should be able to set the octatrack to follow someone’s else MIDI tempo, as long as you don’t define that your tempo clock is defined by pickup track #1. Normal midi tempo following.

Hi thanks for the reply. We dont have any kind of midi tempo at the moment, we were hoping to generate one that would go with the songs on the HD24 if we couldn’t just use a click into the OT that is.

Someone may have done that. Doesn’t seem hard to make a gadget that listens to clicks abs outputs midi clock. I made a teensy based usb midi to din sync.

Maybe an usamo from expert sleepers would work!

Cool, thanks for the help!

As a side note - the Octa doesn’t play well with the pickup machines unless it gets to be the master. If I remember correctly.

Ye, seems that way. Do you think it is possible to slave the OT to a midi clock of some kind that would allow the OT to follow any tempo changes? I would be using pickup machines in this scenario.

The Octa slaves well to midi clock (and tempo changes) as long as you don’t wanna use the pickup machines. I remember there being discussions about that since before from Elektron officials. Don’t quite remember the reasoning.

When I had the Octa I remember using it as the master clock. Which it did just fine. And then I could also use the pickup machines to their full potential.

So, your scenario - I’m afraid not. :nej:

Damn, thanks for the help man! :+1:
