Petition for transferring samples off your machines

DT can do a sysex dump. Not so useful though since you can’t back up the samples.

I took for granted that DN and DT shared the same developement status…
Sysex dump is present on the DN manual, but the menu voice is missing.

SThis is quite a conundrum for a user like me. I’ve spent thousands on elektron gear, and what it does is unlike most any other device I’ve ever owned. Basically, I can make music on these machines that I don’t feel I could on others. However, the shortcomings on display for the entire time I’ve been using Elektron gear have been glaring: lack of communication, irritating teasers, very poor delivery of promised features, but most importantly, buying into this companies theme of “less computer, more tactile, engaged music making, and continued product developement for already sold gear.” I bought Rytm Mk1 with expectations of its development, consistent with previous gear only to watch it be abandoned for a MK2 version within 3 years of its release.
At this point I’d like to say “never again” but in honesty, the OT and DN will join my AR and A4 eventually. I truly hope another company carves into Elektron’s market and starts giving them a real run for their money. Not to destroy them mind you, but remind them that they could do a heck of a lot better.
One thing I’ve learned is don’t preorder and furthermore, expect to wait 1 year minimum for a solid product from them. If others felt the same way, they might get the message. Until then, I fear they will continue to stumble as the money keeps pouring in.

I’ve finally jumped on that boat- I was so excited to own the Digitone, but all of this was too much.

If you have a better idea you‘re welcome!

We have to do something and if the community shouts out loud the chance gets bigger that something happens!

Otherwise we can rant and rant and nothing will happen …

Plan B is that they open up the protocol so all of the other engineers, like mzero, can implement their already coded applications.
In this case elektron can stay behind and has a problem less …

I’m getting old

Check out Malekko’s upcoming boxes.

sell your gear, I wouldn’t expect anything from Elektron. Sad but true

Another genius answer …
I‘m waiting since weeks to give it away, but not without having all of my recordings!

not sure what to tell you, there are very few options and I feel your pain. Aside from manually recording from the line outs and processing later on, you probably will be waiting until your beard is at your feet before elektron provides this functionality.

Why don‘t you offer those options?
As stated, recording the analog out is no option!

So cats would be interested in a multi-platform bi-directional application for transferring Kits, Patterns and Samples for both the Rytm and DigiTakt?

Yeah, the OT has been around long enough that I don’t feel as worried about buying it. I thought “after OT, I’m done with Elektron for awhile.” But DAMN!! That Digitone plucked my soul strings. I’m going to wait awhile before I get it though due to everything already mentioned.
Sometimes I feel like I’m in an emotional relationship with Elektron and I want to start seeing other people, but then wham! they do something that makes you fall in love all over again…even despite the faults.
I really hope they get this stuff all figured out. There is nothing worse then watching greatness fall apart.

I’m surprised no one has contested this yet with an edge case scenario.
Only a matter of time I guess.

I fully agree and I too find it weird why they didn’t use the same USB drive concept of the OT, no need for specialised transfer app, simple and easy file management and renaming, moving etc, not to mention much faster back up.

And while we are on the subject of lack of consistency, I find it daft that the sample rate isn’t the same between OT and AR/DT, it would be much easier to only have to manage samples for all our Elektron machines in one format, so that they can easily be shared without any conversion required by the machines. Also strange that sds send and recieve is on MD, AR, DT but not OT - yes sds is slow but it is reliable and convenient for small samples, like for example sample a snare drum on the OT and sds it to the AR - and to be clear I’m not suggesting it should be the only way, but the option would be handy.

Sometimes seems like the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing.

That said, I keep positive by recognising that despite these flaws Elektron gear is still a amongst the most thoughtfully designed, well featured, enjoyable and capable gear out there, but it does make these infuriating shortcomings, lack of consistency and omissions all the more baffling.

Yeah. that inconsistency really triggers OCD in me …when something is nearly prefect and then I find some glaring omission… If these were cheap DIY machines I would take it as par for the course… but Elektron boxes is (or have been) high quality gear that is mostly very logically thought out. Elektron want us to use their gear together so It baffles me why these inconstecncies are there. If I knew that there was a serious technical reason I’d be satifsied, but the lack of explanation points to things just being left out because development time was cut short or because of some other strange Apple-like design policy to do with keeping the machines “simple”.

Elektron needs to refocus their attention on getting all of their existing machines in fully proper working condition, and put new unreleased products on the back burner for awhile. If they keep doing what they’re doing they’re going to burn their current user base, and they won’t be coming back to buy new products anymore.
