Pedalboard patchbay

Got half a dozen pedals that I want to hardwire into a patchbay. I’ve seen the Boredbrain Patchulator but that’s too bulky.

I’m looking for something like their Terminal 2, except with more patch points. Or something like this DIY, but in the UK. It would need to be this kind of shape to fit into available space.

Going to add another Jason Lamb DOD above the buzzbox, maybe a punkifier if I can afford one. The Space is hardwired to one mixer aux currently, the other aux to be used for any other pedal/combo as required.

Any pedal heads got a good recommendation?

What about buying more than one Terminal 2? Patchbays are not really common for pedalboards.

I think there is a company that makes
an 8x8 pin matrix well suited for whst you wsnt, but i can’t remember the name.

You could DIY one pretty easily and cheaply… (about the easiest DIY project to do…)

was going to suggest VFE Klein Bottle (taking orders for a 2022 batch) but it only has 3 sends.

3Degrees is working on Rewire. It’s only 4 channels but does have built-in FX:

Future Sound has several variations of the pix matrix patchbay concept, although you may have to get creative to Tetris one of them into your pedalboard.

They’re really not are they! I wish someone made a half rack size, 12 channel one.

How about this?

No personal experience with this company or their products though. Same comment regarding the below

@frosty_raver yes, but I’d probably have to find someone to do it for me! I did find this, a couple of these might do if they make any more:

@sir-vector that looks amazing! But costs 1000 euro…

@GovernorSilver American Loopers looks spot on actually, this one maybe.
Wire all the pedals in at the back and then use the top surface to patch them. Room for labels on there too!

Decided on 6 way junction box. It does a simpler job - brings 2x mono sends and 2x stereo returns up to the pedalboard from the mixer. Re-patch as needed from there.

I’ve got 8 fx boxes on the board now and wiring all those up along with 2 send/returns from the mixer would need a full size patchbay almost!

I can’t find one in the UK so will order from the American Loopers site. Thanks again @GovernorSilver, good shout that.

I’ve been using the patchulator 8000 for well over 2 years now for my synths and I couldn’t be happier… I think it was originally designed for pedal board use… a bit pricey though…

Patchulator looks great, but it’s quite bulky - I thought it wouldn’t fit on the shelf with all the pedals, I’ve got a Nut Tapecore and 1 more DOD pedal to add as well as the ‘patchbay’ - pic of the space in OP, pretty tight!

You might have already pulled the trigger, but have you seen any of the Warwick Rockboard Mod junction boxes? This one has 4 trs pass throughs and some other handy connectors which you may or may not find useful.

@Stone262 those do look useful - unfortunately I’m out of power points so I need an unpowered unit

@mrcrappypantson that might do actually! I haven’t ordered the AL one yet, was looking for a way round the lead time & postage/import

Rookie question - the patch bays take TRS cables. If I have stereo fx (Space, Particle 2), do I run a single TRS from their stereo outputs in to one of the patchbay jacks (top row), and then the output of that jack (bottom row) back to the aux return on the mixer? Or do I need to use 2 jacks on the patchbay for that.

It’s unpowered, they’re all just pass through connectors.

Not sure about others but the Rockboard TRS connectors work with both TS and TRS. So for your stereo fx, if they have l/r out on a single trs jack then yeah you can use one trs cable, or if separate a dual ts to trs cable. So in that sense 4 trs should be able to handle your 2 mono sends and 2 stereo returns.

Have you thought about just buying a Hammond enclosure and some jacks and wiring one yourself?
Should be pretty easy and cheap too.

Thanks - I’ve never been sure about this! I get myself very confused with TS, TRS, normalled, half normalled, balanced/unbalanced etc. It seems so simple too. Also hadn’t clocked the power connectors were pass through too.

Same. It’s one of those things I had to keep looking up to remind myself. With guitar stuff it makes sense that the trs also accept ts. I’ve had the one I linked for a while but hadn’t used it yet so your post motivated me to pull it out and test for sure.

Tell you what though, a pedalboard with a full 19inch patchbay mounted on the back could be fun.

This device has been on my want list for years. Still seems like one of the best around…
