hey 'nauts, has anyone seen this situation: I just made a (not especially big) sale on Reverb - about to ship AU > US, no problems.
but Paypal has the amount the seller paid on hold until delivery - wtf? this is new to me. I sold something via Reverb for 8 x times that amount a month ago - no hold applied to the funds though it was within the country, not OS.
Anyone seeing this happening? My sheet with Reverb and PP s clean.
Iâm in the UK and have sold in the EU and UK before, but I assume itâs similar. Reverb holds the payment until proof of the package being sent has been given to Reverb. Thatâs usually the tracking code for UPS or similar. Reverb then releases the funds at midnight that same day and it gets paid out around 24-48 hours after that in my experience.
interesting - the funds have been available immediately to me in the past (20 or so orders as a seller since early 2019). So maybe this wasnât previously being applied to AU sellers? weird.
happens in USA too. reverb holds the funds in escrow and transfers only after some period of time i could never predict. usually delivery but sometimes sooner.
Just sold my Midas Venice 160 withe same thing happening: payment on hold until proof of parcel being sent (tracking number) was updated on Reverb.
All good, money has been credited to my bank account next day following this update
We also just had a federal holiday on Monday in observance of the 4th of July in the US, so that likely added a day or two to the transaction. I shipped something on Saturday (missed the final UPS pickup though), so it didnât actually ship until Tuesday and I just got paid a few hours ago.
itâs much better. the fees are lower now. before. the fees were so high before. also thereâs fewer steps to getting paid and it goes directly into the bank.
selling on ebay was so expensive though. the double fees were insane. paypal and ebay both taking their cut. fees are reduced now⌠or thatâs been my experience.
you can always just transfer money into your paypal account from your bank for free if that helps you do things.
Reverb will hold payments in escrow until the tracking on the package is listed as âIn transitâ. Once in transit, Reverb will release the funds at the end of the business day. My experience is that payouts released at midnight will show up in my bank account in the morning. Just sold a few items on Reverb over the last couple of days so I have very current experience with this.
I have never had it happen that way. Usually, once an item is shipped and it is in transit on the tracking, the money is released within a couple of days. You can always reach out the Reverb support to get a clear answer, and at least you have something in writing as a reference if something were to happen.
I havenât bought international from Reverb very often but this isnât an issue with me in the US.
Initially theyâll hold funds, but after an account is established, a present tracking number will be enough for them to release funds to your account, which will them get posted whenever your bank gets around to it.
Talk to Reverb, I guess? The type of payment received should be irrelevant, perhaps itâs the international shipment complicating things? I wouldnât think but perhaps.
I had this situation from the very beginning. When I received my very first (and quite modest) payment from Reverb, first it put it on hold for 3 weeks. Then it was ok, I did some purchases, but after 1-2 weeks it suddenly restricted my account and demanded to upload extra identifying documents (ID and bank statement). Next sells were on hold for less time, like 1 week. PP checks could be very random. Very annoying system with little benefitsâŚ
update from Reverb support: as the information suggested - itâs not them, itâs PayPal applying some kind of âyouâll receive your funds within one day of deliveryâ thing I havenât seen before after I supplied them with the tracking info.
So Iâll add PayPal to the list: Death, Taxes, Microsoft etc.
Wait time can be even longer if you sell to a local pickup. I had to bug a guy three weeks later to leave me feedback in order to get funds released from a local sale.
haha - the final joke is that Reverb collected US State sales tax on this measly sale & then stung me for it as an add-on from their fees. Choose your buyer locations wisely (Edit: was a sale AU > WA/USA)
