Ill try to explain as best as i can: doing a live thing where i just tweak one sample into a full 8-track. I want to tweak a short sample into a kick drum using a simple pattern 1 - I then want to skip to pattern two which has a prepped rytm and then “keep” the tweak (without having to copy pattern). Possible u know?
If I understood you correctly, you simply have to program pattern 2. If you need to just copy the track parameters u are tweaking, so there wont be a big difference in sound design between pattern 1 and 2, just hit [TRACK]+[COPY], then paste the track sound on the following pattern.
see, the way it seems to work here is: I copy pattern 1 to 2, same sample loaded. If I then tweak say the filter on pattern one and then switch to pattern two, the filter change doesn’t apply in pattern two…thats a really weird thing i have to say I took for granted would work, i must be doing something wrong here…
this happens because there is technically no kit system on the digitakt. Each patterns sounds are completely self contained within the pattern.
Only way around this is to copy the pattern after you’ve made the filter changes. Like @jefones said, each pattern on the Digitakt is self contained (including sends and the master compressor).
huh…yeah i see it…thanks.
you can copy pattern 1 to pattern 2 while the sequencer is running without changing patterns but i dont know if that would help in your situation.
no…well i guess theres no cheating then, will program live
Just felt like ending this by saying now that ive had a think, that the way it is designed i think is obviously better - not only is it possible to do what want to do with a bit of reverse thinking, it also allows for easy access to greater creative potential without more «top-down» structure. Thanks for the help!
please elaborate? it would be nice to hear what you decided to do.
He, I should be more precise perhaps - the exact thing i dont know if you can do - but my objective is to introduce the audience to the source sound, then tweak it to be the kick for instance. As i move on i will introduce another source and then tweak that to be the snare and so on. This can be achieved by reverse «engineering» the full track instead of building it up like i was going to. Major benefits are: im working back from the finished mix so i will end up with the balance i want + plus if i want to tweak in a spesific pattern i dont change the other patterns.
Hmmm, a reduntant +…i will leave it this time.
