Have a little problem today, when i set up the pattern change between octatrack and AR2, it take 1 sequence more to be effective :
When the pattern change on the octatrack ( pattern 1 to pattern 2 for example ), at the end of the 4 pages, the analog rythm is playing the pattern 1 one times more before change to pattern 2. It s the same thing with pattern mode set on direct start on the AR…
Does anyone have the answer so that the two machines change patterns at the same time, at the end of the 4 pages ?
If you use normal Scale mode on both devices, they will probably stay in sync, whichever one sends clock. If you need Advanced Scale mode, with different lengths for some tracks, you might encounter problems. Make sure the LEN and CHNG settings are the same for the equivalent patterns on both devices. Avoid using scale multipliers for individual tracks. These matching settings sometimes help.
This problem is well know. We have many threads about it, here, and many people have reported it to Elektron, with videos.
yeah i saw all the topics on this issue, the problem is that the two devices stay sync on the tempo but the AR change her pattern after one more repetition… Just hope that Elektron will find a solution in the futur.
Okay i found a solution for people who use only hardware devices : (for example with the octatrack in master) it is enough not to set up program changes via a midi track on the OT, just put the setting on program change send - auto channel, on the AR put prog change receive, and so the pattern will change without delay by an additional bar. The only limitation of this technique is that the pattern of the octatrack and the AR will all match (pattern A1 on the OT = pattern A1 on the AR… and so on). So you will have to use the same number of pattern on the 2 machines, it’s doable
I misunderstood your original post. I thought you were already doing this!
Yes, this is a useful strategy. It still doesn’t always work (if your patterns use advanced scales, or don’t match length etc on both devices).
Personally, I find the “limitation” of matching A1 to A1, A2 to A2 on the two devices no real limitation. It’s easier to remember where you are, or where you want to put your notes and p-locks. It gets much confusing if you don’t match them.
I think you’ll need to ensure the devices listen on a MIDI channel that’s different from the one OT sends “pattern” Prgm Chng messages on (if you’re using that feature). I don’t think you can p-lock a programme change message; you have to configure a MIDI track to “have” a Prgm Chng value, and OT will send it when it thinks it needs to (on Start, Stop, Part Changes etc).
(Happy to be schooled if I’ve got this wrong @PeterHanes)
