Hello all,
Does anyone know if the Syntakt has a mode similar to the ‘pickup’ takeover setting in Ableton? I’m looking to avoid the ‘jump’ that happens when you move an assigned knob or slider on a midi controller. What I mean is that if the physical location of the slider/knob on the controller doesn’t match the parameter you are controlling in the Syntakt, then the value of the parameter ‘jumps’ to match the location of the slider. Some controllers have a feature where the knob/slider doesn’t kick in until the position matches the value of the parameter it is mapped to, then it picks up and starts controlling. This works in Ableton if there is two-way communication between the controller and Ableton. The Faderfox MX12 and Midi Fighter Twister both accomplish this for me. I want to do the same thing, but using a controller with the Syntakt directly. Is this possible? Thanks!
which controller are you using?
I’m experimenting with three:
- Akai MPD226
- Faderfox MX12
- Keystep 37
No, I think that’s one for the feature requests, like a cc scale, latch, or jump mode for CC input,
Programming with the sound macros (the sound > setup > MW/AT/BC/PB etc) lets you do relative changes to 4 current parameter values each rather than absolute changes, in case that opens a way to do what you’re looking to do…
I submitted a feature request to add configurable parameter takeover for MIDI about a month ago. The more people submit, the better the chance if seeing it implemented. I only ever received the automated reply.
…if u use/adress those internal makros for the classic cc’s like breathcontrol/modulation it should pick up external values flawlessly…
at least, i saw that working smooth where somebody did that with a faderfox…
Thank you for the input. I’ll send a request as well as experiment with the macros and see if that works.
That should be possible with 2 midi cables and the proper config of controller and ST.
Update: I got the Faderfox MX12 to work as I hoped. I connected the Faderfox midi in/out to the ST in/out and played with the settings until it finally came together. The Faderfox has a ‘snap’ function and that appears to be necessary for this setup. The Arturia Keylab 37 worked as well. There is a ‘hook’ setting in their companion software that does the same thing as ‘snap’ on the Faderfox. Fun!!
The Akai MPD226 which does not have that feature and I could not get that to work.
Nice! Now the issue you might encounter is to send all the initial values from ST to the controller so it knows where to snap from. AFAIK OT is still the only Elektron that has a CC value update request message. So on all the others one has to manually move each setting on the device to have it send out that CC to the controller. Unless I’ve missed something recently.
Gotcha. I didn’t know that. Actually it would make sense as to why so many times I thought I had it right and it would jump. I’ll play with it and report back.
Could you expand on how you achieved it? I fail to get it to work (same setup, except i’m using the PC4 but it equally has the ‘snap’ functionality)
