Oxi One Hardware Sequencer

Also, I’m sure I missed it somewhere in this topic, i’m ready to jump on the oxi wagon, but just to check, are the pads/buttons velocity sensitive on the oxi?

Nope:(

I read the oxi can do ad-envelops with up to +5v which sadly is not much for some vcas. Any solutions to scale this up to +8v or +10v? Can the envelops (and lfos) be modulated within the oxi? I‘m thinking here to some kind of xaoc devices Zadar within the oxi.

Another question (sorry if it has already been answerd): can I sync the oxi to an external clock such as Multi clock + use another in for adding a midi keyboard like arturia keystep?

What do you think of Oxi vs Cirklon?

Oxi vs. Cirklon – I think they’re very very different. Cirklon is much more about precise control and a battleship-type sequencing solution that keeps everything in check, whereas Oxi is focused on a smaller set of things. The Oxi has immediacy and playful sequencer types, which sets it apart from the Cirklon.

That’s not to say one is much better, in absolute terms – different tools for different purposes. FWIW, I think Hapax vs. Cirklon is a more meaningful comparison.

If you have some specific things on your mind, I can try and offer my thoughts on those points.

tx-6 can be controlled with the USB from OXI, so you should be able to do both at the same time.

thanks @CarlosUnch , gonna try
love the idea of being able to sequence / sync a dawless setup with the TX-6, Op-1 field and oxi as brains. Would love to do it without RK-006 (which is not battery powered, more ugly cables, etc).
Gonna jump on the oxi boat!

Cheers

Just got mine today from a fellow naut! I updated it to 3.0

This thing isn’t quite as intuitive as I’d hoped! I’m used to the t1 torso, this is a lot more open ended in a way! Any recs for a tutorial? I know loopop has one but I’m thinking it’s a bit outdated now?

Why nobody considers the manual?
It’s the only up to date source of info of everything One can do.

because the new generation (including me) is totally lazy and we already have to read so much in daily life that we like to sit back and enjoy the show

but good point to remind everyone to RTFM

Haha I consider myself from the new gen too, but cmon, a video will always miss some parts or workflows. I can’t allow myself to not know that a piece of gear I own do X thing. I may not use it but I want to know it in case it comes useful.

Also, the manual is way easier to come back to it and search stuff.

I do read the manual but I really struggle with comprehension. I learn more effectively when I’m watching, definitely a visual learner.

Those SynthDad videos are the best/most up to date I’ve encountered. I struggle with manuals as well, but I have to say the 3.0 manual is much easier to read/reference than previous versions

I’ll keep reading then! I might have been looking at an older version of the manual, thanks for the heads up!

just got my new Oxi ! Very excited to have this be the brains of my operations. Such a well built machine. All pads, knobs & buttons feel great. Just moving around the operations without any synths was a great introduction to the flow. Thanks to the Oxi crew for an amazing sequencer!

Any idea when the Oxi will be back in stock at Thomann?

What are you trying to accomplish on the Oxi? I find this sequencer to be super easy compared to something like a Cirklon. Its amazing for cranking out chord progressions or random off beat drum patterns…etc.

I am trying to find the most efficient way of entering notes into a sequence. With mono or poly, I can just hit play and record and I’m in.

But how does it work with the Multitrack or Matriceal modes? Do I have to hit the step and manually enter the note with the encoder? I have had no success playing in notes off the keyboard. Am I doing something wrong?

Page 25 of the 3.0 manual says:

STEP RECORDING / EXT. INPUT CAPTURE

When the OXI One is stopped, press the Rec button and the step recording will be enabled.
Then, in the sequencer view, keep any step pressed and any input MIDI note from an external source (MIDI keyboard or controller) will be recorded into the pattern.

Is there a way to do this with the internal keyboard layout, or do I really need to hook up my Linnstrument for this? EDIT: I just hooked up my Linnstrument through the USB host + power and am not getting any note recording. The Linnstrument works fine with other synths. Is there a setting somewhere else I need to tweak? MIDI input filtering is set to off. So it should just go straight to the selected sequencer track.

I also haven’t successfully recorded notes played on the arpeggiator in either of these modes (works fine in mono and poly).

My basic setup has it in isomorphic 4ths layout because I’m a bassist and Linnstrument player, so I know where notes are. I went looking for videos but I haven’t seen this specific question answered anywhere I can find, and due respect to synth dad, but I don’t want to sit through all his videos just to find out.

I wonder: can you set probability to the arp on the oxi together with hold?

so that you can create evolving / generative / everchanging arps without the need of pressing buttons on the oxi when you start? how?

The modulation lanes as well as the LFOs can be used to modulate all parameters of the arp. So you can activate hold, press any notes you like to be held and then start tweaking the modulations. You can then even switch to other sequencers and start working on other parts without the notes getting released.

pg 70 explains per step note value editing in Multitrack mode: hold step, shows values in menu, use encoder to dial in specific Vel/Note/Gate/Mod for that step

STEP PARAMETERS
Hold any step of any track to access its parameters. Here you can
modify per step:
Velocity and Gate as in other modes.
Note, as we don’t have a Piano Roll view, you can edit the notes
manually, the values depend on the active scale.
