Oxi One Hardware Sequencer

I bought a used oxi one without the DIN to TRS MIDI Adaptor (Type A) that was originally included. Is it okay to order the OXI Instruments DIN Clock adaptor? Is that the same?

Can you link it please? I’ve not heard of that type of adapter. You could also just order a Type A DIN to mini adapter from anywhere else.

OXI Instruments DIN Clock adaptor
[/quote] is to be used with older gear that uses DIN-Sync. TB-303, TR-606, etc…

If you need to get a MIDI DIN-TRS adapter anyway, have look at this little gem

Finally got my Oxi One MKII and despite having a MKI very briefly I didn’t have time to delve too deep as I sold it as soon as I saw double sequencer tracks available on the MKII.

Now I always assumed saving a Template was for the whole 8 sequencers so was a little confused when it appear to be per sequencer / track - so despite an initial “meh” I then realised it makes more sense this way as easier to mix and match devices. Though I assumed that was what the custom Instrument definitions section was for?? So a little confusion here, or is that more for sharing for other users to save assigning CCs etc

I guess to save an overall Template with all 8 sequencers assigned and fresh blank sequencers is basically to save a Project with the word Template chucked on the end for good measure?

Such an incredible sequencer

My story as well. I received my MKII last week but I’ve had little time to dive in.

As far as the templates and instrument definitions, I think you’ve nailed it; templates would be for you to use locally on your device whereas definitions would be more for sharing with the community. For example, someone could make an instrument definition for the SH01A so you wouldn’t have to go through the work of mapping all of the CCs. A sequencer template would more like your personal sequencer preferences saved so you wouldn’t have to set them each time. Just load up your template.

Same same but not I suppose?

This x100!!

Am I correct in assuming the Templates kind of fall apart when it comes to saving Eurorack devices as the CV and Gate is not saved as part of the template.

Eg - have Eurorack device A on Gate 1 and CV 1 for sequencer 1. Save as Template “Device A” Load it on a different sequencer and of course the Gate and CV is not assigned.

I presume solution is to just have a Eurorack project with all Eurorack pre-setup and use templates only for non Eurorack devices on spare Tracks.

Will have to play when I get home!!

For those with MK2, does it still support the monome grid mode?

Thanks

So hard getting info on chords…any help much appreciated -

  1. Can major and minor chords be now mixed/borrowed together? Feels weird to just make a tune with one or the other

2 I see poly chords can now have user defined notes to make a chord - very cool. Can these user definted chords be used in a harmony track for other mono tracks to follow?

  1. Only if you use the chromatic scale

  2. Yes they can

This Chromatic scale feature sounds very useful…

So i can program a mixture of minor/major chords in poly mode and that works ok as a harmony track for other mono tracks to follow? Only asking as expressive chords in ableton has loads of cool minor/major chords that i could quickly copy/program into the Oxi One

I like the chromatic scale a lot, but be aware that you either have to know music theory to know which chords to choose, or just go by ear with lots of trial and error (what I do).

Yes, whatever chords you program in Poly mode can be used to harmonize other tracks.

The best way!

I know a bit of theory…But planning on using Abletons Expressive Chords and getting the notes from there tbh

I am liking the look of the MK2

I had the MK1 for a little while and it felt a little convoluted with all the button combos. Its good they simplified all that and made things more accessible with dedicated buttons. Also having groove settings is great.

I done the preorder on Sat…I wonder how long the wait is

Can your own chords be saved as ‘saved user chords’ for quick access?

Is there a way to have the chords be strummed, notes in quick succession rather than all at the same time?

I recommend checking the Oxi One forums for this kind of question, there is a lot to be learnt from there

For your specific question, there’s this post from 2022: Humanizer or Strumming for Chord Mode - OXI Instruments Forum
