Trying to figure out from the pictures if the screen on the new version is any bigger. Doesn’t really seem like it, and that is my only problem with the mk1.
From the pictures and video clips I’ve seen, it looks like the screen is the same size. If it is bigger on the mk2, it’s not by much. I also would have liked a substantial increase in screen real estate. My guess is that they wanted to maintain portability without making any drastic changes to the form factor.
That said, I’m probably going to end up getting it anyway. It looks like it has some exciting new additions that may help me to look past the tiny screen.
It looks the same to me size wise but squeezed the buttons about for the 8 sequencers.
My only gripes with it so far being a newbie is I forget whats on each sequencer haha.
Would be cool if you could name them and on each sequencer button press it flashes the name in the display for 1 second
Preorder 2 weeks time according to Oxi on social media
Oxi sequencer is a great device. Does many many things, generous output and inputs and a battery! But I find the screen VERY tiny and never could able to adjust my brain as the most left and right knob actually controls something within screen (because they sit outside of the screen but other two under the screen) the sub menus were too much to dig in - and many functions were either communicated through lights or tiny screen with tiny px text.
Great hardware, (imo) very bad interface. Hope when they say more they didn’t just dump more buttons but also improved the user experience and pls no button combination menus!
I honestly find the Oxi One an absolute breeze to use, see and understand, despite my horrendously poor eyesight. The screen is bright, the text crisp and the sub-functions very well laid-out. Sometimes you find stuff that just works for you - the Oxi One is that for me.
Yeah, tonight was the first time I spend some proper hours with it, connecting it to Ableton on the laptop and via the MiniFuse controlling my Syntakt via 5-pin MIDI. The screen is fine, it’s clear and I have no trouble reading it. I like the monochrome simple business-like UI, a bit like the S-4 and the MicroFreak. I admit there’s still a lot to learn (modulation, matriceal mode, etc.), but in a relatively short time (no prior experience) I had figured out how to create a simple melody with the multitrack controlling several MIDI channels on the Syntakt, recording audio or MIDI (in Ableton), etc. I think it’s a cool device. Only gripe would be missing a port for a quick battery swap or removal (I’m not too fond of internal non-removable batteries).
Is that a micro sd card slot on yesterdays Oxi teaser with the mention of “memory”?
Looks like it. Storing midi files would be good.
Intriguing product launch, there’s loads of comments on here and elsewhere from people who just bought a One.
Seems a bit redundant to tease the features when a leak has already happened but guess that’s just to stoke interest until the release.
It doesn’t seem to offer much more than the One for me to upgrade… especially if it will cost more. I might as well buy a cheap secondhand One when everyone sells them off.
At least then the UI still makes sense, showing 8 sequencers at the same time on the same amount of pads won’t be as great as it is with the current 4, at least.
I couldn’t bring my OCD self to have a One and a Two because they are different lengths (only half joking!)
Seems like some users feel alienated and a bit put out since it was announced a bit out of the blue and the last update wasn’t all that long ago in November.
Definitely an interesting case lesson for product launches since a big market for the new product is bound to be existing users.
I also think it could have done with improvements elsewhere like others mentioned, bigger screen and less key combos would be nice on a more expensive product.
According to today’s reveal, it looks like the screen will be “bigger” after all. If one were to judge from the 8 second clip that leaked about a week ago, it doesn’t look like the screen size increased that much, if at all. It will be interesting to make the comparison myself once I’m able to get my hands on the mk2.
Ah interesting - I also assumed same size
I expect they’ve been planning the tease for some time - in their position (assuming the leak was unintended) would you willingly abandon your planned tease campaign? I know I wouldn’t, not least because the majority of potential customers will have no knowledge of the leak, and because the tease campaign will drum up interest which will result in sales. I expect it costs a lot to develop, prototype, test and launch a new device, every penny counts.
My current position is thatI don’t have any desire to upgrade from the original version of the Oxi One - it does everything I could ever want, and more. But when the full specs come out for this iteration, I may cave.
If you have signed up to be the first to know on the OXI Website you got a mail today with some pictures. No real new info from what has already been shared but better images
Regarding Instrument definitions -am I correct that you still cannot save the actual MIDI channel (Just CCs).
Not sure however the upcoming firmware seems to have improved and made it possible to create instrument definition with an app.
From @OxiInstruments I bit up in the thread
” Will leak about 5.0 firmware of the OXI ONE.
There will be custom instrument definitions with a new fantastic app .
Chords for chromatic scale.
And Custom chords for poly among other things.”
What a strange commercial policy, oxi one is available again from Thomann at 709 euros. At this point I hope the MkII doesn’t cost like a supercar.
I have a feeling “because of the tariffs” it’s gonna have 1k plus price tag.
I hope I’m wrong.
