I’m really struggling with the ‘pick and place’ chord feature. The first chord always seems to play back correctly but subsequent placed chords placed are not the same one I’m picking. And the chord is different depending on where I place it on the grid. Sometimes its the same chord depending on which of the 8 vertical slots I pick but how the hell are you supposed to know which one to put it on, especially if you’ve picked the various different voicings etc. obviously I’m missing something, please someone enlighten me…
If you want full control, make sure AUTO VOICE is OFF and you are not having harmonizer enabled.
Yeah both off, still not working.
Never understood chord mode pick and place. I guess that I’m doing something wrong but it is as same as you.
I don’t use chord mode. I can’t figure out how it works.
Thank you! I ran across a video showing exactly this and it answered my question. Very simple process! With the Eloquencer (which is also fantastic) something this simple involves a lot more work.
Buying an Oxi in the next 24 hrs and still wondering if anyone using the Black edition is liking it in Monome Grid mode? Is it easy to distinguish between bright vs dim buttons? I plan to use it with Ansible in VCV rack.
I do paired with Norns. For what I’ve tried, There’s only one script so far that is a bit tricky to distinguish brightness, pattern presets on MLRE for state. The rest is fine.
Thanks Carlos! I’ve gone with the Ultra Black.
Tried it yesterday, it’s working perfect. Bitwig controlled by the Oxi One, really great.
For those having troubles with pick and place
to place the last played chord, you must tap the sequencer step where you want your chord to begin and tap it briefly! no tap and hold, just a short quick strike tap like finger drumming.
then the step is auto placed on the correct note row.
only then you press and hold the step and while holding it with one finger, strike the sequencer step where you want your chord to end.
that’s all there is to is.
Thanks, still not working though, I’ve uploaded a short video, first 2 placements work ok, last 2 are not the chords that I picked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xpvif0AuoRw
Seems like being on the page to which you want to place the chord before entering keyboard view might help?
It doesn’t, but I think it is page related, if I place all the chords on the first page they are all correct, I can then copy/paste to the other pages. Seems like a bug, or at least something that can be improved upon.
I sold mine because of the flakey chord implementation…One of those devices thats so near and yet so far.
Lost mine when moving. My friends helped me pack and shove it in some box I still haven’t opened apparently. Wanna try Bitwig integration.
I was about to order one of these until I found out the sequencer doesn’t do triplets. That quickly killed my gas.
I’m not using the Oxi One in the way that I thought I would… While it may be very nice overall, I kind of hate the mushy buttons and the unlabeled buttons are just a bit too much for me. And I also don’t really make tracks with it because all the saving and loading stuff is too much of a hassle (because I can’t see what’s going on - I’d rather use a real menu). And I also always end up transferring the midi notes from the Oxi to my Elektrons because I find them a bit more intuitive.
Anyway, I really enjoy the way chords can be made! Does anyone know if there’s something else out there which will do something like that minus all the advanced stuff? The Oxi is kind of pricey if you only use about 5% of the device…
Could you please elaborate on that? Is there functionality you need which is hard to find/memorise because it’s “hidden”?
There’s a menu where you can scroll through and manage all the patterns and projects but switching in the menu between patterns/projects is not that obvious. Is that what you mean? Or something else?
The Novation Launchkey MK4 series looks like it has a good amount of similar chord generation features for a fraction of the price of the Oxi One.
I’m also only using Oxi One for its generative features and not saving/loading on device, just capturing midi notes on Elektron hardware or in Ableton. It’s pricey, but the constant updates and support are really nice.
Is there a harmony mode on the launch key? So keys change with the chords? I remember that being the most useful feature with the OXI…But i guess thats more a sequencer thing rather than a midi keyboard
