Just got my Overhub 2 and I thought I’d drop one imho underrated aspect of it for people dealing w/ hybrid rigs.
I always wanted a hybrid setup that:
- i can simply connect w/ one cable to my macbook and the entire thing starts talking to ableton
- i can disconnect my laptop at any time and it will continue working
- zero fucking around with cables when i want to switch states
There were several issues I ran into but the biggest by far for me was that you need a powered usb hub that will continue powering your devices – Midihub, Arturia Minilab etc. – even when disconnected from a laptop. In my experience very few of these fucking things do that. My solution used to be a pretty expensive Caldigit Element TB4 hub but I had to move that to my office.
Happy to report the Overhub II works like a charm for this, what’s more, unlike the Caldigit it doesn’t momentarily turn off usb power to my Midihub etc. when I disconnect power / laptop so peripherals don’t have to reboot. Super nice, thank you to whoever’s responsible for that functionality.
For the money it’s a steal.

This is great, having continuous power during disconnected usb-devices and handshakes is not that common actually. Thanks for the update… the Overdub II just became interesting for me for more than just a overbridge tool

I wonder if running the MRCC to the Overhub will introduce any jitter or latency compared to having the Conductive Labs MRCC directly to the computer. Anybody that have the possibility to test or have tested?
i cant test w MRCC but I did notice (entirely expected) small latency difference when putting my MIDI keyboard thru OH vs. directly into the laptop

Got the Overhub II now so i made two screen recordings of the BPM display in Bitwig with the OXI One as clock master, one with the MRCC straight into the Mac and one with the MRCC thru the OH. Then i had Claude analyse both recordings, it read the BPM value 10 times per second, and this is the result:

So no added jitter from the hub that i can see 
The OH was even a tiny bit steadier but probably just random. The small wobble is from the clock going over USB in the first place, not the OH. I haven’t measured latency though, only the clock.

The included cable is a bit on the short (1 meter long) and also a bit on the stiff side and not as thin as you would like so finding it difficult to get my cables neatly fixed from the computer, So im looking for a replacement cable. But the included one is a really good 10 Gb/s cable and this will certainly benefit the transfer speed of the SD-card reader. Thing is that a longer cable that i would need (4m) can only do 480 Mb/s so it’s a bit of a bummer. But i think the only thing that will happen is that the card-reader will be slower since Overbridge and my MRCC only need 480 Mb/s to operate.
Just wanted to share my findings if anybody else is in the same boat. Might need to reconsider the placement of the Overhub for now.
Edit: added a picture. The included cable is the large one. The one in the middle is an Apple 480 mbps cable you get with a keyboard or iPhone etc.

So if you are looking for a longer cable I found a very inexpensive 5m 10gb/s cable on amazon. With this cable I could place the Overhub close to my MRCC and where I have the Elektron boxes so If I ever want to use Overbridge it will be easy to connect. My Mac setting says it’s indeed showing up as a 10gb/s cable which is not a certain thing with this length. Also very very nice price… not sure if an error on amazon or something else.

Its also quite thick but the connector is a tad bit smaller than the 1m cable that is included… see picture post above for comparison.
