Overbridge over virtual machine

Greetings!
Have Win 8.1 with no way to upgrade to Win 10.

Thinking of installing some virtual machine with Win 10 to try to work with VST or standalone.

Will it actually work this way? I mean will virtual machine be able to operate with Digitone input?

It might work but latency would be killer. If it’s not a huge pain to try it out it can’t hurt!

Windows 10 is getting a legit Linux kernel soon so it can do containers and other Linux-like things. So that’s kind of cool. I’d jump to Ubuntu in a heartbeat if it had the support for audio that Windows & MacOS does. The potential for super low latency and efficient file system handling is there and it’s way more tuneable than Windows. Maybe some haxOr can get OB running with Wine or something.

Virtualization and realtime requirements (= stable lowlevel timing for short audio buffers) won’t match up well. Especially when running under Windows.

But there is light on the horizon …
