Overbridge on iPad, anyone? ;-)

Call me crazy all you like, but for those of you who missed it yesterday, Apple announced audio units are coming to IOS…

[ul]
[li]The Audio Unit extension point allows your app to provide musical instruments, audio effects, sound generators, and more for use within apps like GarageBand, Logic, and other Audio Unit host apps. The extension point also brings a full audio plug-in model to iOS and lets you sell Audio Units on the App Store.[/li]

Apple Bringing Audio Unit Plugins To iOS » Synthtopia

You’re not crazy.
I look forward to the day iOS finally reaches current OSX levels of performance.
Since computing has reached a theoretical single-core limit and we’re having to do more parallel processing, it may not be long before all these devices reach the same speed and we’ll have such flexibility.
Unfortunately, with the iPad just reaching 2gb of ram last year and a 64-bit OS before that, we’re still a ways off of hosting some of the newer, richer sounding plugins–remember, even desktops and laptops need UAD cards with SHARC processors to handle things like true analog emulation–we’re definitely getting closer, though.
Shouldn’t be long, but it probably isn’t on Elektron’s radar at the moment.

What I really want is a Reaktor plugin that runs in iOS.
You give me Reaktor on the iPad and I, sir or ma’am, will give you my money.

I just had the thought in my head when I posted this that people would…

A) Avoid the thread like the plague, based on the thread title.
or
B) Read the thread title and be in full blown RANT mode, before even clicking on the title to chastise me for asking such a dumb question - Only to be stunned by the content.

I have no real interest in this ATM, I’m just being a good citizen and spreading the info to those that will.

What I really want is for Elektron to fix this shitty forum so that it works properly on IOS! Hah.

People do like to bitch around here.

My first thought when I heard about the announcement was Overbridge on iOS, and I don’t even have a machine that could utilize it. Exciting stuff.

If iOverbrige only acted like a bigger screen with my A4 that would be enough for me. I don’t use a computer with my music otherwise so I currently don’t get anything from overbridge in my life. And you know…old man eyes :zonked:

I love the idea of iOS interfaces, and have no problem blending/effecting ipad output material through an Octatrack and Analog 4 for sets. I have hope for Strom and the Rytm.

The biggest advantage I see for the iOS devices (duh, I guess) is expanded control options. If the Overbridge VSTi or AU plug-in panel could be pulled up and controlled on an iOS device with the resultant Rytm/A4/AK sound running on its own sequencer, into the mixer, through the amps, out the speakers, I’d be floored. Make it wireless, even more floored. Then everything without power cables. Then controlled via eye movement and combined with digital and analog (Elektron) eurorack units patched digitally or maybe telepathically…

…anyway. Fun stuff.

My thoughts exactly. I just like the larger view to have a better idea of what is going on within the machine. I really do appreciate elektron taking the stand alone hardware approach and offering the flexibility that overbridge offers is perfect for so many people in different ways. I also would love to see just a control panel interface like the vsti for iPad. Simpler the better. Doesn’t need to record sound or anything. Just the live graphics for parameter changes

iOS audio unit support would make all that “firmware rewrite blocking all awaiting updates on some machines” quite worthy.

Hi,

I thought the Analog Heat Mk2 was allowing class compliant audio (+midi ?) with USB.
And could act as a sound card for IOS.
It seems it was the case for the Analog Heat first edition, but also seems it wasn’t very stable after some times and ended with glitches.

I wonder if the A4 Mk2 has also this feature (USB soundcard class compliant)

Any informations about that would be very useful

As far as I know none of the Elektron boxes have class compliant audio, only MIDI. I may be wrong though.
I would love to connect my Digitone to my iPad via USB and have audio and MIDI going to and from AUM.

Also. As soon as you put the Elektron machines in Overbridge mode, the usb midi isn’t class compliant anymore.

„this sucks more than anything that has ever sucked before.“
