Overbridge much too quiet? (nope: just plenty of headroom)

It has nothing to do with boosting or headroom, it’s a mistake because the “individual audio” is 6db less than the actual “USB master” level, so your demonstration isn’t valid because actually the USB master level is fine, but once we switch to individual audio we need to correct it by +6db which like the person said before shouldn’t forced upon us.

It’s just an easy parameter to change, I don’t know why they don’t do it, or at least allow us to change this default parameter as part of the Digitakt preferences or VST preferences (in “USB config” which is for now useless tbh).

‘USB to main’ is not useless. It does something else than you think I guess :). From the manual:

“USB TO MAIN [dB] sets the amount of amplification of the sound that is streamed over USB to the Digitakt’s main out.”

This option is there to amplify the sound from computer to the physical outputs. So if you are monitoring through the physical outputs this option can be used to boost the sound coming from your DAW. If you are monitoring through a different audio interface, this option does nothing.

Regarding gain staging and headroom: See my other posts on this topic in this thread.

Regarding the difference between the main level out and the sum of the individual channels: This again has to do with headroom of individual channels. If you want the sum of the individual channels to be equal to the main out, head over to the master compressor page and turn the master level down to 64. You could see that as the normal level while per standard it’s turned up to 127 to boost the level on the master out. However, one could create a template in DAW with gain utilities on each channel and set them to one’s liking for each channel and main out of DT to level them etc. When starting a project including DT, load project template and you’re done.

Maybe they’ll add an option to boost the individual channels by x dB. And I hope they do for the people that really want that option. Until then, I’ll just leave this here:

The opening post sums it all up quite nicely.

Perfect thank you.

Nah it’s been stated by Elektron staff that it’s not a mistake, it’s intentional. Why do folks keep stating that this is a mistake or bug when the actual creators have been very clear that it’s not? Like Dave said, take the time to make a template for your DAW.

It would be rad if a mod could lock this thread or something, all the relevant info is already here for anyone wondering about OB2 levels. So dumb to see the same thing brought up over, and over, and over… I guess I could just ignore the thread too…

I thought it was clear I meant it was a mistake for them to do it intentionally, not that it was an accident. I was saying that while they shouldn’t have done it, they had in fact don’t it intentionally. Just saying they were wrong.

They’re not wrong, you’re wrong. Meant respectfully. They know what they are doing, they designed these instruments in the first place. Anyway, from the other comments you know what to do regarding volume and utilities. Hopefully OB2 is working well for you and you record lots and lots of tracks!

Not for you to decide. Customer is always right.

*CustomerS ARE always right. FTFY. If the majority don’t have a problem why ‘fix’ it for the vocal minority? It’s such a non issue and there are easy solutions as pointed out here so many times already

Totally agree. Lock it down. This thread is just tedious now

We don’t have time “to make a template for your DAW” like the other person said, our time is valuable, that’s why we pay for expensive pieces of gear in the first place, it must be ready to go.

It’s a non issue for you, not for us. Fix it!

A template with (if you use Ableton Live, as an example) Utility plugins raising the volume of each OB track to whatever you want could have been created in less time than posting here to be honest

Okay let’s make a template for every technical flaw and let’s stop fixing things, that will be fun for sure…

Round and round we go in circles. It’s not broken! Carry on if you want. I’m out

It’s not a flaw. It’s there so you don’t clip your waveforms during resonant filter sweeps and gain plug-Ins don’t add noise as it’s all digital anyway.

Not gonna say “problem” solved because this isn’t a problem. It’s a feature.

The fact that this has been explained multiple times in the thread, only for people to ignore the factual answers meant this thread could not live on in a meaningful way.

Hi my Digitakt and Digitone both give a very low output in OB when I try DAW recording. The low output is the same when I open the stand alone.
However my A4 MkII gives a health output both in the DAW Logic X and stand alone.
Anyone having similar issues ?
Kindly assist
Thanks

Hello. The topic got covered in detail here and then shutdown because the advice being given by many wasn’t heeded: Overbridge much too quiet? (nope: just plenty of headroom)

Thank you so much for your assistance
I just started using OB

Similar on mine too (using Ableton 10) and I’m unsure if it’s an intentional feature.

I don’t mind it too much and I appreciate what people are saying regarding pro headroom levels but the output generally is a bit too quiet through my headphones/interface, so as a quick workaround I just add a utility (stock audio plugin) on the master to boost the gain when working on the session, then remove it after when mixing down.
