Just wondering how far anyone here has managed to push overbridge and what the limitations are? Anyone tried out multitrack recording a large number of elektron devices via OB alongside other gear with a traditional audio interface setup? Any issues? (Acceptible latency if recording while performing?)
I’m just mulling over future recording setups while away from my gear
I’ve recorded all of the individual tracks, FX tracks, external input tracks, and main tracks (28+ or something) from a DT2 and ST simultaneously without issue with a MOTU Ultalite AVB interface. However, other gear not involved like say running the DFAM or Octatrack into the inputs on the interface, but I’m confident that wouldn’t be an issue - any latency could be adjusted for those tracks in the DAW after-the-fact easily enough.
Edit: Mac M1, sometimes Ableton and sometimes Logic. You can also setup latency compensation for the non-Overridge gear as another way to go about it as well
Edit 2: If the interface supports latency-free monitoring, you could use that to monitor the input of the non-OB gear. So, would I do this while performing live for an audience? No, I wouldn’t want this sort of complexity - just record a stereo track of your 2-buss. But if you are recording and performing live that you want to mix down in your DAW at home/in studio, should be fine

Nice, that’s pretty similar to what i’m planning - digitone2, syntakt, possibly analog heat mk1 and then 2 or maybe 3 synths through an RME interface (depending on what the heat is processing). Not for actual live performance but for multitracking sessions
Ya cool - what you could do is input the synths into the inputs on the Elektron gear and then those get recorded via Overbridge as the external input tracks from whatever Elektron box you have them plugged into. The advantage of that is no latency as they are treated the same as any other Overbridge track

i thought about that but for some reason had it in my head that the external inputs get mixed in with the onboard fx in the OB routing - I’ll have to figure out the routing situation eventually, I haven’t yet got my head round how the OB routing works on the syntakt with the analog channel
The FX get recorded as their own stereo track. In other words, any FX on any track don’t get recorded with that track - they are dry. That includes the external input tracks.
