Overbridge and Reaper

I setup Reaper and Overbridge to use with my Rytm MKII. On my M1 Mac with a UAD Apollo Twin I have been having some intermittent latency and sync issues. The “catch up” thing happens all the time when transport is enabled. I set a 2 bar count in and that seems to help. I noticed randomly that the the click and the Rytm would start out of sync. Rebooting the Rytm would kinda help.

Bummer that it is so inconsistent. Such a great feature, but not super solid.

I have the same sync issue with my digitone using overbridge in Reaper. The best performance I’ve had is using the digitone as my main soundcard, routing the audio into individual tracks, then sending it a midi clock and transport from Reaper. So you’re just building your own sudo overbridge.

Yes, I have the same issues, including the catchup thingy.
That is painful as I like the idea of sequencing software synth in reaper on the timeline while I play the digitakt over it.

It is not too bad, but it works cleary better on ableton for instance and I was wondering If anyone had some tricks up his sleeves to have a much consistent behaviour.

The only trick I found so far is to let always let the track containing the overbridge plugin armed (and set with record None, monitoring only) which forces reaper to prioritize this particular track.

@Akio_Daku : I have also tried to use the midi clock from reaper, but I personnally have much worse results.

Otherwise Overbridge works very well for me but I wish they could improve the sync on reaper. I know I could use ableton or else, but I feel way more comfortable with reaper.

What are you sending the clock over midi or USB? Cos I’ve found that if you use the USB for audio only and din for midi clock I get a good sync. Also if folk don’t know, when you just want to sequence with Reaper, you can auto sync if you use the Reainsert plugin treating your Elektron like other outboard. Then it’s all perfect.

Yes, reinsert is pretty cool, there are also JS plugin that send midi clock that you can put on a reaper track and set the track to send midi to your midi port.

However, I don’t wanna do this because I like to work this way : I loop 4 bars (or 8) in reaper, sequence a soft synth, record a violin/guitar/vocal, sequence digitakt, record multi-track of digitakt.

I don’t want back and forth between reinsert and overbridge. However, with the current Overbridge sync, I can work this way but I always need to check if the sync is working or not, which affects my creativity a bit.

I am the production kinda of elektron user, I don’t jam that much, I don’t make live shows… I produce and overbridge feels like an essential tool to me for this purpose (and is pretty awesome).

I totally get that, don’t get me wrong I’d rather overbridge be bug free, I just see the above as work arounds. My main work flow now is to write on one of my individual elektron boxes to start a peice, sample that into Koala then sync Koala to another box to finish writing. Then I’ll render stems out of Koala and mix in daw. I’d just rather be on the couch or in bed, so a box and my phone is the perfect way for me to do things.

HI, I’m not home until Friday to check for sure, but I’m sure I changed the midi setting in ‘preferences’ for the Digitakt to ‘no spp/continue’ and that made a big difference to the false starts.

Interesting, I wouldn’t have looked for a song position setting (I think that’s what SPP is). I’ll give this a shot tomorrow for sure

I record everything in ableton, it works, then I put my tracks in reaper for the other things… I don’t understand why it’s not working in both!

I still prefer reaper with not so good sync than ableton with good sync.

At the opposite of most of the elektron users I see on the internet, I mostly work with my DAW, and the digitakt is recorded on some parts as an instrument like any other. I don’t want to spend time deciding which DAW I am going to use for each project, that may or may not involve the digitakt. Also, I know reaper like the back of my hand, knowing the shortcuts, having my sample library tidy (which is way better than ableton way of managing samples IMO), project templates, midi controller mapping and so on.

The day I need to move to another platform, I will, but I won’t do it because of this sync issue. Still it would br so convenient to have it fixed
