Overbridge 2.7.1 installation error

i was chatting with the guy doing work on it because it didn’t work during testing, hopefully they knew, they were actually surprised i’d even managed to load a recent version on … i’m not holding my breath

One thing I’m sad to fault Elektron on is consistent statements about system compatibility in the release notes. I’ve been using Wayback Machine to try and compile a document listing which versions are working on what OS (I use a Mac so that’s what the focus is on). Here’s how it looks atm, note total absence of any entries for Overbridge:

So far what I’ve discovered is that they are often wrong on the main download page and have bumped requirements seemingly arbitrarily. Or vice versa as people here are discovering, they have neglected to update them. It’s pretty sloppy tbh.

Additionally the new website makes it a nightmare to figure out so I’ve pretty much given up.

Can anyone think of a workaround in case this is just it for older Macs? I reverted to OB 2.5.4 and while the plugin refused to work, the meters in the control panel did respond. I personally don’t care about the interface, I just want to be able to record audio over USB.

to be fair, beta programs can be rolling for months on end and whilst it can still (clearly) be better communicated, it’s half there, but not with all the important details up to date

i’m surprised this is not reflecting what i was told, so that’s why i think the text will be fixed soon (i reported it on the beta topic)

i had to dig around for an old installer to get it back on btw

If you uninstalled the old Overbridge and the new v2.7.1 doesn’t work, here is the backup of v2.5.3

Sure, it’s understandable that these things happen. But I think the general way Elektron’s release notes are handled is pretty bad. They don’t keep notes of every bugfix update, and seem to smoosh older notes together after a point update. And what’s more there’s no info in the history of where minimum system requirements have changed, hence my resorting to Wayback Machine to check the download pages for every version I could find there. There’s no reason not to be explicit about all the changes that have been made, that’s what release notes are for. Also it would be helpful to save support having to field lots of tickets about the software not working.

It’s human error, most other things are visible to check in testing - firmware, release notes, pdf manual etc - but the last minute stuff pre-launch is probably a one man show

we’re testing it now essentially, in any case it needs a text clarification to avoid folk wasting time and effort for sure . .everyone wins, except legacy system owners - i am stuck with Mojave for 32bit support and OB isn’t that appealing to me tbh

This topic got me diving back into the Wayback Machine and doing some URL-fu. For anyone having trouble with the new OB here’s the official Elektron link to the last version before 2.7:

No offence to @Enrico_Pallazzo but I don’t download executable files from random links for obvious reasons.

i’m on mac os big sur 11.7.10
same over here, installer is working but the software not:

Here is a new version with the macOS 10.13 fix.

Amazing! Thanks David

Is this a short term arrangement or is it sustainable for longer - I thought hints of a newer OB core made this unworkable, i may have misunderstood ?

I may also have picked up an M2 mac mini with next to no storage, if i try an install on the Macos before sonoma will i be able to remove all OB traces if i’m chasing a clean machine dream

If it’s not entirely removed i might try the Mojave machine as it’s only the editor and quick captures which i wouldn’t mind

Thanks David, it works fine for me on Big Sur 11.2.2

Great! Working for me (Mojave - Digitakt).
Thank you David, thanks a lot to Elektron engineers

All working here OSX 10.14.6
Thanks again!!

great it works! on macos 11.7.10
thank you !

Successful as well on 10.13.6
Thank you!

Thanks for the quick fix. I tested it out briefly when you posted it. But I had to go visit family for the holiday before I had the opportunity to thank you. All is well on 10.13.6.

We still support macOS versions starting from 10.13. However, as indicated on the Overbridge download page, we are soon transitioning to support only macOS versions 11 Big Sur and later. This change was previously scheduled to occur on 1 September but has been delayed. At this time, we are unable to provide an exact timeframe for this transition, but it is anticipated to happen in the near future.
