Outbox 8 use cases?

How do you plan on using the outbox 8 if you’re primarily a Digitone 2 user?
I’m considering getting an Analog heat and sending the higher frequency tracks into it.
I have a mood MK2 which could be nice to use on pads for the really nice reverb.

I mean, you basically nailed it. Can define up to 8 custom busses with their own insert FX and presumably can even bus out the FX track and inputs alongside things. Drum bus into heat, pads bus into big reverb, plinky sound bus stays dry, send some tracks to your sampler ins instead of master out, whatever you can think of. Probably the most obvious would be breaking out the kick to use as a sidechain source.

I think a lot of people are overthinking this device.

Separate track outputs is something that many people need for live shows purely for mixing purposes (ie. so that somebody sitting at the back of the room can tweak the level of each individual sound).

This box adds that to all current Elektron devices at a no-brainer price point. Elektron is going to sell a lot of these and a lot of Elektron boxes will be sold because of it.

It can also be used for other things like inserting FX? That’s a side effect (pun intended).

yes definitely going into my new analog mixer i just bought, how many tracks i don’t know yet but maybe 4 bus and other 4 testing cv out with my modular rig ?

I’m going to get some sweet mileage from my Oto Boum, BlackHole reverb and Pill pedal. Day 1 purchase for me! Also bought a LiveTrak L6 to mix the result. No brainer.

It would make much more sense if Elektron just allow to connect two boxes (that support overbridge) directly with USB cable (like DT2 → Analog Heat).

What is the point of converting signal to analog to just moment later convert it back to digital?

Outbox 8 make sens only if you need to send signal to non-Electron-compatible devices.

Really can’t wait to try one.
Hope it’s rock solid/reliable, I went for no computer on stage for a reason

Will the Outbox8 be able to work the other way, around too?Like taking in 8 separate inputs, and being used as both an 8-in and 8-out box?

I’m wanting to use it to send busses into my modular for processing. Basically the tonverk’s bus routing but for DN2 and using my modular. I’ve been wanting to use nicer effects than the built in, and also wanting to process busses of tracks. I can’t wait for it! Depending on price I might get two, one for DT2 and one for DN2.

No, out only. They did seem open to the idea of making an Inbox-8 if the outbox sells well. I think that would make a lot of sense for Tonverk

I was thinking the same, but the more i liked idea, the more i realized that i can do same via overbridge and plugins i own, something i don’t have in hardware.
I can, see it also as good performance box, for reasons you mentioned, but for home production kinda doesn’t make much sense without hardware.
Also there is a difference in latency from overbridge (can’t forget this).

It will be fine!
Off course

Yeah, in my case I don’t do much in the DAW and don’t have a collection of plugins I like, but I do have a collection of modules.

I have the L6 also. I don’t have a laptop. I record everything to my iPad which you can’t use over bridge on currently. I remember Elektron showcased multi out to iPad last year. I may wait for this to come to life. The iPad would be a great companion to an Elektron groove box.

Indeed, Overbridge on iPad would give you access to proper mixing with EQ and insert fx, and lots of sound design options on top of that.

But now we have a simple workaround: Outbox8 and an 8-channel audio interface.

Might be worth it in some scenarios.

Because I’ve only ever used the stereo out to record and I’m still quite new to electronic music. I’m not sure how the FX sends would would work with an outbox 8. I param lock a lot of FX and play the delay send master settings a lot when jamming. Am I right in thinking that the FX sends could be sent to the main outs leaving 8 outputs of the outbox 8 for your dry sounds? I’m not sure if Elektron have explained this of if it’s like over bridge and someone who uses it can make an educated guess

Outbox 8 outputs into a mixer with pedals or other fx units fx on the mixer sends, or connect them directly in line between Outbox and the mixer.

Exactly. You can still use the send effects, what you route to the individual outputs is the dry signal, and the fx return goes to main out.

Output 8 can also be used as cv/gate outputs.

This is such a great feature
