Outbox 8 Audio Compatibility Wiki

So far it’s a no-go for me on the MPC Live III.

If I use the USB-A port, the L3 acts as the host. In this case I get the blue light, but when I try to use the Outbox 8 as an interface the MPC says “Failed to Open Capture Stream”.

If I use the USB-C port, the L3 acts as a device. In this case I get a flashing red light.

Ok but even I switch supplies it’s kind of random with the mode where you end up.

This is because the Live III (in host mode on USB-A) is swapping out the internal audio interface for the external one, and requires that it also has inputs (which the Outbox 8 naturally doesn’t). On USB-C it only supports AKAI’s computer interface (MPC Software).

The Gen 2’s on the other hand (MPC One G2 etc) works fine with Outbox 8, as it supports other hosts on the USB-C port in parallell to the internal audio interface. See Loopop’s Outbox 8 video for what settings to use.

That explains the “Failure to Open Capture stream” message. I appreciate the explanation, thanks!

Hey Thomas, small correction here, it does support USB-C with iPhone/IPad. I was able to select different USB outs on the MPC and push audio to AUM on the iPad. So it seems it does have some manner of class-compliance working without Akai drivers.

Ok interesting, will try that some more when I get the chance!

Does anyone have a Roland sh-4d to try with the outbox8? I’m wondering if the class compliant multitrack mode added in the big 2.0 update will work with this.

Allright! Didn’t have access to a L3 at the time so I went by the manual which said that the USB-C port is “…to send/receive MIDI and audio data to/from the MPC software on your computer” whereas USB-A mentions “…connect standard MIDI controllers and supported class-compliant audio interfaces to these ports”. I also couldn’t see that it had the option to select USB-C Host/Device mode which G2 has.

But maybe there is some class compliant action going on the L3 USB-C after all… Will investigate at some point.

I have one. I can’t test it until later today.

Tried SH-4d. Only two channels show in Generic mode. Red blinking led on Outbox 8 in Vendor mode.
Confirmed with Ableton Live that all 12 channels show in Vendor mode.

Bummer, but not surprising. Thanks for checking!

Hi, new here so please excuse any etiquette errors…

I’m struggling with my dirtywave M8, it’ll connect to outbox 8 when outbox is connected to the computer, so I can configure channel routing etc, but it doesn’t seem to connect when outbox is connected to power alone. What mistake could I be making? Tried a bunch of cables, power sources etc.

Thanks in advance
