OT task in a studio setup

Hi all !
It might be a boring question but nobody better then you elektronauts can give me such a nice suggestion…

At the moment my studio is cfg like this…

1 OT master and everything slaved to her ( 1 more OT, 1 MnM, 303, Mopho )

the issue is that when I would like to use only 1 instrument I have to switch on everything and if I do something which I like to save then I have to connect my computer and my audio interface as well… Doing it a lot becomes a waste of time…

So I was thinking to revert in the previous system…

Live 9 as master, midi connected to MOTU USB MIDI INTERFACE, which has 5 out, and from each of this output connect midi In of each instrument…

What do you think about that?

thank you

I’ve just ordered a MOTU Midi Timepiece from Ebay for the same purpose. My plan is to set up a couple of different presets for different scenarios. Eg;

Setup 1 - Full studio rig
INs

  1. Mac midi out (Audio 8) into patchbay
  2. Controller Keyboard into patchbay
  3. MPD32 into patchbay
  4. Innerlock Syncgen into patchbay (from audio8 out)

OUTs

  1. Midi into Octatrack
  2. Midi into MD
    3, 4, 5, 6 etc midi into outboard synths

With this setup everything should receive the syncgen pulse at the same time and channels from any of the ins and outs can be routed anywhere etc

Setup 2 - Live set
IN’s

  1. OT midi out into patchbay
  2. MPD32 into patchbay

OUTS’s

  1. MIDI in to OT (from mpd32)
  2. MIDI in to MD (from OT)

Thats basically my live setup and with the patchbay I should be able to switch to that setup with a couple of button presses at the start of a session (and without having to rip leads out / crawl around on hands and knees poking around the back of racks etc!) I can’t wait to get it set up tbh.

I’ve labelled up all of my main audio patchbay and midi patchbay leads for any kit that leaves the studio often so that when I get back from gigs I dont have to crawl aronud the back of my patchbay and trace which lead is which (something thats happened more than once before and was seriously not fun ;))
