OT - sound quality

I think it can be time consuming for some things for sure, no threshold sampling being a bit of a slight gripe of mine, but for capturing sample accurate loops using record triggers/one shot of externally synced or internal sources, once set up, it is extremely fast and efficient to capture lots of loops in succession, upto 8 at a time if required. I don’t know of anything outside some DAWs that can do the same, in this scope.

Yeah it’s probably the best at that, but I’m more of a one shot sample kind of guy. It is a brilliant looper. that’s for sure.

…ot changed my life…gave me the option to feel like a guitar hero on stage…
freed my hands whenever i needed to sing along…spended me some of the most intresting soundgimmicks i’ve ever heard and experienced in a 3 decades plus music career…no other instrument spended me that many lucky dips and happy sonic accidents…even after years of use…again and again…let me made heaps of money with live shows…but still remains a myst to me…

ot is more than just ok…it’s unique…and is as outdated as future bullet proofed…
timeless for real!

and as more than obviously proofed HERE…NOT FOR EVERYBODY!

soooooooo, as cosmic said…CASE CLOSED.

This thread influences other threads that don’t even talk about the OT. So, I doubt this will end soon. :joy:

This thread slowly gets into your head to the point where you have to defend your beloved one, the one device that put a smile on your face, the one device you would die for, the one device that keeps you up all night, …

That’s why this thread will never end. You are the perfect example why this thread still remains active.

This is the thread i always click on when something new gets posted. I find it amusing that it’s such a pain for some people. I hope it will never end. The good thing is that i can just post something bad about the OT and the thread will happily last for a few days more.

I have a feeling, the threads being closed, are the ones, most of us find most entertaining.

Had a nightmare last night. This thread got closed an I totally forgot how to make the OT sound neutral. Was it timestretch on or off??

Can’t really judge sound quality from an mp3, I demand a RealAudio upload.

That’s interesting, thank you!
Need to take back the hot air station for an IC swap then.
Not because the OT sound bad or something else that I don’t care for, just for the DIY upgrade sake!

BTW I like the OT mainly for the destruction and manipulation sake, if I need to record 1:1 orchestra, certainly the gear used for would be something else.
If you use OT to record for quality result, well, I think that’s not the OT design purpose.

I imagine some raver that’s listening to a sound system and thinking about the quality of the OT output… :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Imagine Delia Derbyshire using the Octatrack.

To get straight how relative the OT is start from here:

Someone should start a thread saying how not great the TM-1 is instead.
“Its got cables sticking out 3 sides of it. Do you even midi, bro?”

I had a vision where several Elektron circuits surrounded me in a semi circle and explained that OT sound quality, Rytm Ext input and the green lights on the mixer were all related!

I didn’t trust them though, it goes against the tried and true techniques of “redline to headline”
