OT Feature Requests Thread (active)

Ah ok so you just mean normal fades, yeah I’m sure that would be doable. Your use of xfade/crossfade caused some confusion. :slight_smile:

Maybe it was the mulled wine or it is a bright moment, the following idea popped up. :cloud_with_lightning:

Scenario: Being in LFO Page, either MIDI LFO or AUDIO LFO, your LFOs are mapped to parameters in that track. Now you turn up the DEP1 or one of the other DEP2, DEP3. The Curve gets applied, focusing on the audible result. You find out your sinus-like curve will add to the mapped parameter. After finding out how much - you go to that page, wait…, you, no it was some other one. You forgot which one. You open the LFO options and visit your LFO1/2/3 to remember where you mapped it, now you close the options and go to that page and adjust the parameter.

Suggestion/Feature: What if in LFO Page turning CUE+D/E/F wheel shows the mapped parameter in the according DEP1…3 field and you adjust it directly without going to that page. Meaning not adjusting the mapping, just adjusting the parameter directly that LFO is mapped to. You release CUE again and adjust the DEP1 again in behaviour as is.

amazing or crap? Would that also give new possibilities to perform live as this would by simply pushing cue in lfo page reveal what i mapped those lfo’s to. Nice when opening older projects or being on stage to remind yourself what is going on where. Likewise wheels A/B/C could change the MULT option when used with CUE.

supercopy (from MNM) for copy/paste/clear individual components of each tracks sequence i.e p-locks, slides. Mostly want for the ability to manipulate recorded plock data more easily, specifically to quickly clear all plocks on a track.

Would be also interesting to copy pattern + associated part.
(Grid Rec Off)

And also copy/paste scene locks per track.

doesn’t that not also suggest that being able to see all chosen parts per pattern at once would be cool as well. Thinking of open hitting PTRN and the “Select Pattern” box would show something like [1|1|1|1][2|3|4|1][2|2|2|2][3|3|4|4] where the numbers would indicate what part is chosen on all 16 patterns of a bank. As neither Arrangement nor some other dedicated view shows them all, you have to skip thru any pattern to keep control.

Copy and paste pattern shortcuts like on the newer boxes, doesn’t seem like they’d break anything. Being able to copy a pattern other than the current, and paste into a slot other than the current is very important when creating new patterns live without interruption.

Func+Right arrow when slicing to create a new slice immediately after the current one. Currently it just errors “no more slices” which is the same as pressing right arrow only. Currently a bit tedious to create new slices, this would speed things up a lot.

Up and down arrows to move through slice pages and chromatic octaves rather than using page, this would map mode closely to other elektron devices, and these keys are currently unused. It would also allow going up as well as down.

FUNC up/down switches to other quickviews (in example chromatic). Right/left nudges the tempo if not assigned to another function otherwise. For those using the OT on stage thats en essential feature that has to be accessible as much as possible to quickly adjust the offset (like a vinyl dj adjusts with a spin). FUNC right/left skips thru the octaves. Who knows… consistent UI to newer workflows of less complex machines might be a thing for some. So a feature could be to allow to let a user chose.
The right-left axis is basically reserved for the time vector/domain and pattern pos of something. Up-down axis same same for pitch, level, mode, slot, option, lfo amplitude. You might want to check out pattern shifting with FUNC+right/left in live-edit mode and then figure out why pages are only reachable via their dedicated buttons. Because you would have to internalise why pages switch in some modes with r/l and in some would clash with basic functionality which would actually increase level of complexity for users. Not saying its bad, just that allowing right/left page switching would mean to turn off some features.

I feel you’re talking about slide trigs. Have you tried slide trigs for this?

More personalisation options that bring them more inline with later Elektrons, for example:

  • not having to double tap to access second pages.

Unless I missed the option to deactivate it, it is the most annoying thing on the OT.

  • An option like on the DIGI boxes to remember stuff after reset such as MIDI map modes per track and the Modes reached by FUNC+Arrow up/down.
    I also wish this menu would be circular (to reach the TRACK mode by pressing down when i’m in DELAY mode, etc.).

  • A way to lock tracks so we don’t delete trigs by mistake when we go fast and forget we’re in Rec mode.

Pretty sure up and down don’t do anything when not holding func? I’m suggesting up and down do that func+left and right do for chromatic mode (matches digitakt for changing octave) and what page does for slices mode (it’s displayed as a vertical stack of 16 slices so using up and down would make sense for scrolling through it). It shouldn’t remove any existing behaviour, just bind some use to up and down that makes sense.

Tracks before neighbour tracks should show a different color led since muting them does nothing (as far as I can tell). It’s confusing when you try to mute them and nothing happens. Or alternatively muting them could actually mute them :slight_smile:

I never tried to sample a track that has a neighbor though. Maybe it’s still doable and that would explain why muting a neighbor doesn’t also mute its related track.

Pretty sure you can sample a muted track

@impbox
• up/down used to chose LFO type (1…3/design), midi ARP trig+pitch, FX type, PB slot, Machine type, Step-sample-slot and so on… basically menu diving in ARR up/down even has (+func) copy/erase functions.
• muted tracks followed by Neighbour behave different in Studio mode as far i remember. Where color becomes essential to know whats going on. And Cue plays muted tracks as well, even when they have neighbours, so in non studio mode they blink.
@Jeanne
• FUNC+page opens/closes pages. (so there is room for improvement on user choice maybe)
• long holding page btn has functionality on the OT. If we get rid of the double tap we loose those.
The OT distinguishes long (~0.35s++) holding and short pressing, one short press (~0.35s - -) closes Page you are in.

Ahh I see what you mean, I was thinking when no menu is open, but Octatrack treats pretty common actions like menus.

the always reachable tempo also uses up/down, kinda important to not mess up tempo on a recording sampler even tho the OT handles tempo changes well. One accidental hit and your recording is nuts. Haha but well that said applies to basically all knobs and buttons on the OT. lol
Also thinking the 16 button layout made some choices when the firmware was written which on 2x8 button layouts like the DT make less sense.

Scenes being able to control midi track settings, seems strange that they’re not usable like it was something that was forgotten. Was just using to map a scene to control performance macros on the rytm but doesn’t work =(
