?OT controlling VST, how does it go?

How does the OT go at controlling VST?

Anybody doing that on a consistent basis, is viable or a waste of time?

I no longer have an OT, but I was doing this a bit before I traded it. As I recall, the biggest hiccup I found was that I had to assign a CC number to a parameter on the OT before any VST could be assigned to it. Other than that, it was just a matter of assigning ports and channels in my DAW (Ableton Live). Lots of fun using the OT arps and sampling from your software. I can give this a shot tomorrow with the Monomachine or Machinedrum (should be pretty similar) if you have any questions.

Hey Accent thanks, i guess i don’t know what i am really expecting from using the OT with VSTs,
i guess just having the Elektron sequencer work on my soft synths would be cool… i haven’t got the OT yet, I have the Rytm

found this seems to work ok

I haven’t looked back into this since reacquiring an OT but I did this a lot on my old unit - works very well. Though to caveat that, I didn’t use the CC’s so I’m really just talking arps and basic note playing.

Plan ahead as there wont be instant recall with your vst’s unless, say, you set up a template in something like Live and use that as your OT vst controller template or something

If looking to sample, you may just be better preparing your loops in your DAW and exporting out to the OT to perform with.

I was doing all of this regularly in the past with vsts and an iPad but found it a little frustrating, especially with the iPad, as you had to either live in the moment or write down what preset you had been using, on what channel, etc. Can get a little messy so as with all things OT, keep it simple to begin with to avoid frustrations.
