I wanted to use the ot to send some messages to the JDXI that all goes fine. I wanted to learn the cc numbers for a particular part on the JDXI but when i put it the ot into listen cc mode it doesn’t ‘hear’ anything. if i swap over to a BS2, same channel same cable the OT picks up the CC.
If anyone here has the jdxi and an OT some help to solve this would be appreciated. I think its a jdxi setting somewhere but despite reading the manual and the jdxi parameter doc and midi imp doc I am still stuck. it doesn’t matter which knob i turn the ot doesn’t pick it up.
it picks up standard messages like fiolter resonance etc, The OT doesnt pick up any other stuff like changeing the partials. So I am wondering if it can send the partail and set it.
If you look at the MIDI Implementation chart that Roland publishes for the JD-Xi, you will see that it only sends and receives MIDI CC messages for a limited number of parameters.
I did download it, its 14 pages worth and I found the sections that deal with the partials on page 11 but it doesn’t actually say whats possible. So thought I would ask as there is nothing that you lot have not done.
The document that I just downloaded (version 1.00, 1 May 2015) has 18 pages and the clearest summary of the MIDI CC capabilities is given in the Table on page 17.
Hmmm, maybe unrelated tho I’ve not been able to stop the XI from sending midi messages to a tanzmaus… The global settings don’t effect it, tho I noticed it only sent notes from digital synth 2… Tho changing a patch or synth type for eg clears the whole pattern on tanz…
Nothing on tanzmaus I’ve seen allows me to block them.
The JD-Xi appears to have system settings that control the transmission and reception of Program Change messages and System Exclusive messages. You could try turning those off.
It also had a “Soft Through” function which, if activated, would pass MIDI messages it receives to anything connected at its MIDI Out port.
It might also be useful to ensure that the Tanzmaus isn’t set to receive on any of the MIDI channel numbers used by the JD-Xi: 1, 2, 3, and 10.
Cheers, I can’t see myself buying extra hardware to use it in this way.
I’ll message mfb maybe to see if there’s a way to disable receiving messages I guess, probably easier than dealing with Roland … Doesn’t seem like the xi duplicates thru messages properly either when slaved to another clock so I think an update is in order…
In fact i think you recommended the Motu to me Peter and it has been one of the most effective pieces of hardware as I can link equipment with no crossover with the 8 ports.
I’ve set it to off… So should’nt be sending anything. Wasn’t meaning to ask this on elektron’, jus thought I’d mention it when I seen the thread in case there was a similar solution.
