OT as Multitrack MIDI Looper for Nord Drum 3p

I’m having a hard time understanding if it is possible to record multiple MIDI tracks at the same time on the OT (or if can only record to the active track), so I can live loop drumming from the ND3P pads. I would ideally like to individually control CC messages and muting for each of the 6 ND3P voices. I’ve been able to live record individual tracks one at a time, and figured out recording all 6 voices just from the global ND3P channel to an individual MIDI track on the OT, but I would like the flexibility of recording to individual MIDI tracks on the OT. My failed experiment is below:

  • turn off Local Control on the ND3P
  • set ND3P pads to individual MIDI channels
  • connect ND3P to send MIDI to Octatrack
  • set OT MIDI tracks to corresponding MIDI channels
  • send MIDI back from OT to ND3P to trigger voices
  • send audio from ND3P into OT Input A
  • set audio track 1 to a Thru Machine to listen to Input A and add trig for the sound to come through
  • Live Record on OT to record MIDI

This ends up recording all MIDI onto the actively selected Track on the OT as opposed to Pad 1 recording on MIDI Track 1, Pad 2 to Track 2, etc. I think this answers my question that multitrack MIDI recording isn’t possible but I wanted to see if any of the wizards here can correct me, thanks!

You can’t set the pads to (output on) individual channels. The 3P always sends all triggers on its only/global channel.
You could you use a midi hub, between the 3P and OT, to convert the 3P pads note triggers to individual midi channels though…

[edited for clarification]

I can recommend the Blokas for that, I did the same to combine 3P and Syntakt.

If the OT can record midi on multiple tracks at once though, I don’t know.

Welcome.

Unfortunately OT can’t record multiple midi tracks.

It can record on multiple audio tracks, receiving different midi channels.
