This is really cool. I am not going to ditch my DN2 and DT2 combo now, but I could easily imagine myself only owning the Syntakt.

does DN2 have choke groups? i know it does layering

nope

Changelog

Summary

List of changes from OS 1.30B to 1.40
Improvements
Added SP TWINSHOT, a dual sample player machine.

Added Track relations functionality, letting you layer tracks together or use choking to have one track cut off other tracks. This is reached through the PATTERN menu.

You can now use key tracking to modulate up to four freely assignable parameters. This feature is available in the SOUND > SETUP menu.

Added a FILTER PAN parameter to the FX track’s multi-mode filter.

Added a configuration menu for the Control all functionality. This is reached through the PATTERN menu.

Added new trig conditions: LST, Not LST, Not A:B.

Added the possibility to prepare mutes for being muted or unmuted.

Added a Personalize menu and moved the LED INTESITY, LED BACKLIGHT, and REMEMBER SUBPAGE there.

Added a new setting in the PERSONALIZE menu that lets you choose whether parameter locks are applied to all sequencer steps or only to steps that already contain a trig. There’s also a shortcut to temporarily invert this behavior: press and hold [REC] in LIVE RECORDING mode.

Added a new setting in the PERSONALIZE menu that lets you choose whether existing trigs should be automatically copied when you extend the number of sequencer pages.

Added a setting in the PERSONALIZE menu that controls how the DATA ENTRY KNOB knob behaves when adjusting the NOTE parameter. You can choose whether turning the encoder steps through notes chromatically, while pressing and turning follows the selected keyboard scale – or the other way around.

Added a setting in the PERSONALIZE menu that lets you add notes and parameter locks in LIVE RECORDING mode to already placed trigs instead of replacing them.

Added a setting in the PERSONALIZE menu lets choose what happens when you press a key to change tracks.

Added support for snap values when parameter locking.

Improved the pattern selection view and interaction, including a separate screen for creating pattern chains.

Added the possibility to add parameter locks to all active trigs on a sequencer page or track by holding down a trig and then also holding [PAGE] or [TRK] while editing a parameter.

Improved several parts of the UI, including a cleaner look for the modulation destination list, a page indicator when a group contains multiple parameter pages as well as better indication of envelope handles. When performing sound locks, the Sound pool list and its interaction behavior have also been improved.

When not in KEYBOARD mode, it is now possible to use [UP] and [DOWN] to navigate between the parameter pages within a parameter page group.

The selected MUTE mode is now remembered between power cycles.

Bug fixes
Checkboxes in menus could not be toggled with the [LEFT] and [RIGHT] keys.

Copying a track sound to a track using a different machine had no effect.

Pressing [STOP] twice to stop all sound from playing did not work when using an AHD envelope with decay set to INF and having a very long attack.

The machines added in OS 1.30 had wrong CC and NRPN mappings.

The active parameter page did not reload correctly when switching from a MIDI machine to another machine.

MIDI tracks could display incorrect parameters on the active parameter page after being pasted to another pattern.

Recording notes in LIVE RECORDING mode while on a looped page could affect already placed trigs on another page.

ok, so no new synth machine or LFO but track layering is huge, love that.

Choke groups?!? Well that’s a lovely surprise!

SP TWINSHOT
The Twinshot machine lets you load two separate samples and play them back in either forward or reverse direction. The first sample also has its own filter and decay controls, giving you additional ways to shape the sound. Twinshot is a very flexible machine and can be used in many ways. For example, you can use the sample in the first for the transient and the second sample for the body of a sound. When it comes to drums, it’s especially useful for playing back hi-hats, cymbals, and other drum and percussion sounds that are hard to create using synthesis alone. For more information about samples and how to load samples to the Syntakt, please see “6.2.4 SAMPLES” on page 19

Would have been fun to have a new synth engine to play with too but otherwise, awesome release

I have a question:

How can we send a project which uses samples to another person?

ie. Are the 64 samples stored in the project file or are they “global”?

“After transferring samples, reboot the Syntakt to make the samples available for use.”

The manual makes it look like they’re global, which means you can’t send projects with samples to other people and you can’t change your sample set without breaking your projects .

Using a transient when you can not change the startpoint makes absolutly no sense. You want to place transient and body exacly right in relation.

Key tracking, layering, and choke groups are huge! Plus the qol changes for notes locking to scale

Too bad there’s nothing for the trig modifiers but I can’t complain about this update at all!

I have another question:

It says the limit is 5 seconds per sample 512kb but there’s a 7 second sample in that sample pack.

Also that the native format is 48kHz but the sample pack is at 44.1kHz. Is Transfer going to resample/chop the samples when you upload them?

(answer: yes)
