Open Challenge #15: ARPs & LFOs [VOTING OPEN!]

Second entry from my side.

A bit more to it. At least with regards to effort.
LYRA with a LFO or three on the OT.
A4 . Bass drum. LFO on the volume. Pluck, arp and LFO.
And weird atonal shit track. Volume LFO ++ and arp.

First entry!

Tough challenge! This is the 2nd or 3rd try at making something like a composition.

All Digitakt and Monologue:

2 tracks of rain and cars; LFOs on the volume & OD.
1 track of retriggered hihat.
2 tracks of single-cycle waveforms; LFOs mostly on filters
2 tracks vocal samples; spoken and sung, LFOs mostly on start point & play direction
1 track drum break; LFOs on filters and play direction
1 midi track triggering the Monologue (in arp mode)

Pretty much one patternā€”I copied the same pattern across a few slots to make the mutes & unmutes cleaner.

This sounds like bats!

When you slow down their echolocation it kind of sounds like this.

Sorry, whatā€™s the deadline in EDT? Iā€™m no good at timezones.

Seems like midnight July 30th in UTC-10 (Hawaii?) would be . . . uh . . . 6am on Sunday, July 30th in New York?

I meant it to be midnight as in end of day (11:59 pm). So following from that:

EDT (USA East Coast): 5:59 am Monday July 31st
UTC: 9:59 am Monday July 31st
CEST (Central European Summer Time): 11:59 am Monday July 31st
IST (India Standard Time): 3:29 pm/15:29 Monday July 31st
AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time): 7:59 pm/19:59 Monday July 31st

(But also, the real deadline is before we make the poll post, which is likely to be an hour or a couple later)

I did this one last week, I thought it was a bit too busy sounding, but listening again in the happy optimism of having two weeks off work Iā€™ve convinced myself I prefer this one to my other ones.

Itā€™s multiple tracks with different instruments, each having single note of a minor scale arpeggiated differently.

Second entry!

Same basic setup as the first, with some different samples and a different arpeggioā€¦

It does make me wonder; this was all one take and all one pattern, and I triggered the Monoā€™s arp at the start and let it run free.

Buuuutā€¦ throughout the take I was also removing and adding back steps in the arpā€™s sequence.

Are the steps in an arp considered individual ā€œtriggersā€ ? If so I suppose this entry is disqualified?

Third entry! Fun and challenging.

Some cutoff and LFO fade changes during take. Hope thatā€™s allowed ?

A4. Lead ARP and LFOs. Kick and some LFO infected percussion.
MINITAUR OT ARP.

Iā€™m thinking I might have fucked this up. First of all Iā€™m 20 seconds over the three minute limit. Itā€™s just a bunch of dumb delay tails but stillā€¦ Secondly I too went with the idea of one trig per note of the arp (all other sounds are one trig per track). Thereā€™s only three notes in said arp and I triggered them by hand toward the beginning and held those keys down until I let the arp die in the middle. When it returns to the main pattern I do the same thing once again. Any variations in the arp are from twiddling rate, mode, octave, and swing. Hereā€™s what I came up with:

Also! Iā€™m loving what Iā€™m hearing in here! I love the open endedness of this kind of challenge and I knew Iā€™d get to hear all sorts of weird, cool stuff. And I might have even learned a little along the way :0)

We shouldā€™ve been able to double :heart: here!

This was really an excellent and very inspiring challenge. Thank you @sleepside and @bodymechanics for coming up with the idea and hosting the thread.
I felt well at home and it was very difficult to pick a favorite from all these nice submissions.

You are far too kind! I see you in the current sounds thread and feel the same way most every time you post.

Also! Giving a final listen to all these now. When I was listening one by one as they trickled in I thought I had a clear winner in mind. Listening to all of them together has made this much more difficult. Good stuff everybody!

Cool. Well, me and a mate had a listen through these and we both agreed this was good stuff. Keep up the good work! Cheers
