I just received a B2600 in the post and when I took the box out the seal had been cut, internally everything looks unopened but I cant help wonder if it has been returned and if so why. Is there a legitimate reason why the shop would open the box or should I assume its been through someone else’s hands and ask for a replacement?.
It would worry me less if I had the knowledge to properly assess it for possible faults but as I don’ t the possibility of missing something a previous purchaser had found unnerves me.
Anyone have any experience with this kind of situation?.
If you didn’t get an open box discount, you shouldn’t receive an open box.
But if everything is present, I would probably ask for some money back rather than ship back and forth. People often buy things they can’t afford, and the current world situation is one where I’d expect a lot of people to return fun toys that they don’t really need. The 2600 is a fairly simple machine, so it shouldn’t be difficult to test out all of the modules to confirm that everything works.
Please name & shame the vendor, this is bad behavior.
Whenever I order a new piece of gear, I let them know that I want it in a factory sealed box - otherwise you risk getting someone else’s returned gear.
Its the unknown that bothers me, I don’t return anything unless it has something wrong with it so find it hard to imagine buying something and returning it without even turning it on and trying it out, at which point its second hand regardless of how little use its had.
It came from the UK super partner.
I’m in the USA, and I ordered a BARP2600 from Anderton’s in the UK - they opened my item and tested it before sending it, and I was glad that they did.
I have no idea, but that might be standard practice for retailers that deal with overseas customers…
I wonder if they do it with UK sales too?.
it’s probably a good idea to e-mail them and let them know about your concerns - if it was me, I’d be a bit irritated as well. Anderton’s made it clear in their order confirmation email that they’d be testing my unit before shipping, so I wasn’t surprised when it arrived with the box obviously having been opened.
Yep, from experience, this is normal for Andertons
Any piece of stick can therefore go anywhere
I dont want anyones greasy fingerprints on my new gear thankyou. Plus there is something disturbing about a retail shop testing equipment. If you found it faulty they can make it difficult for a return saying it was tested in the shop with no faults. And if you return they make you pay the postage. This is a bad practice.
But, iirc by law apparently, they are obliged to do this before shipping fwiw … at least that was their explanation to me
If it is standard practice now at Andertons im never buying from them again.
Yea this is what would get me - regardless of anything else I’d return it for this alone - lifes too short for anxieties like this Maybe it was opened so someone in support could check how long the USB cable was, but I’d also always wonder if there was something wrong with it, and if ever you think you hear something a bit wrong, or think something lags a bit, or maybe is that a bit wobbly? You’ll always wonder.
Schrodingers Synth.
btw I’ve never had anything open box from Andertons, I’ve bought a few bits from them.
They shouldn’t need to test things before they ship them, that’s the manufacturer’s job But yea maybe it’s an international sales thing, as returns are a bit more of a headache.
It relates to exporting and possibly items which do not come with the appropriate IEC cable in the box!
Hm, when I buy from EU stores they just stick a converter in the outer box. I have like 10 of them in a bag somewhere
They shouldn’t be messing with the product IMO
But we’re talking about their process for American sales, perhaps different priorities exist when shipping across the Atlantic
Sounds sus to me.
But Jack wouldn’t do a dirty on us - he wouldn’t let that happen.
welp, haters gonna hate, I guess…
personally, I was glad they tested my unit before shipping; there were plenty of complaints on various forums about defective units, and I would have been angry if I’d had to ship the BARP back to the UK at my expense.
Again, to be clear, Anderton’s was up front about this and told me in the order confirmation e-mail that they’d be opening it and testing it, and that it would be delayed for a day to get that done before sending it out. Overall, I was thrilled with the transaction - my unit has no issues, and they included a power cable for USA mains.
It is a very different story if they are up front about it and have a good justification.
I sent them an email before starting the thread but being Sunday it’ll take a while.
Haven’t even taken it out the bag yet, which is a bummer as I payed for Sunday delivery so I could get it set up and running before the working week.
