Cool! You’re most of the way there then for using some external effects. I like the idea of ambient wet-only samples, going to give that a go this afternoon!
Yeah i was umming and arring about getting the Oto Instruments Bam and Bim…But by the time i purchase those, get some sort of box to connect them (output8 etc) - im over a grand. IOS has some really nice 12 bit sounding reverbs and delays now and just resampling the wet hits keeps everything contained in the OPXY
So you get the 8 OPXY outputs over usb to the iPad?
Awesome! Might be time for me to finally play with aum! Just usb to usb? No intermediary device?
Yep!
Current status. Aux out going to my memory man, and using the LFO to ping-pong the return signal in time with the repeats.
I also have two linked synth tracks panned L and R, playing different Keys instruments from that new sample pack.
Not gonna lie, it sounds amaaaaazing!
I wonder if it’s possible to use the M8 to send pattern change messages to the XY. Than you could use the M8’s “song mode” as a launcher
A waste of ressources ? OP-XY probably has already everything under the hood to time stretch :
- 3 sampler engines
- the ability to detect transients
- pitch manipulation
- a ‘tape’ machine that kind of time stretch
What else ?
well we got timestretch on OP-XY before GTA VI
Thats a fair point
But you could say the same about Digitakt…And its time stretch is total rubbish…

Hell yeah! Excited to see this develop
A reminder that Elektron’s firmware discussion guidelines for the forum apply to other manufacturers’ devices if they have not been explicitly made open to mods:
“What else?”
In this delightful armchair summary, you left out the only resource that actually matters in this scenario. Developer time. There seems to be one main dude driving the OPXY updates. Which btw we have just seen several HUGE additions.
Secondly, I also think timestretch does little for the identity of the OPXY and that literally any time spent on it would be time better spent on many other things.
That’s just my opinion. I don’t expect the company to bend to my opinion so I just follow what they do and move on from the device when their ideas diverge from my needs.
It’s very unfortunate that you didn’t understand the capabilities of the $2000 machine before you bought it but your specific aims and wishes for the device do not equate to it being a necessity or no brainer to add. Even if it were as easy as you seem to think it is.
And just because some user might be able to slap that feature on with some spit, duck tape and paper clips over the course of a few hours does NOT mean it would have been the right call for TE to do the same. We need to stop this black and white view of things.
Those two ideas are increasingly conflated and it’s just a sad way to view things. It’s poisoned the discourse and in my view, the thinking around what it even means to design or engage with a specific instrument in the first place. Limitations and all.
Does opxy have the finger sequencer
I unplugged and when I replugged the connections are gone and only show a Mic symbol. Anyone know why? Thanks.
