OP-XY/Z User Thread

Turns out I had to kill it and didn’t notice this icon!

Another confusing thing- I downloaded some presets containing samples, some of which are multisamples, some are drum presets. Put the .preset folders into the presets folder. How do I load them up as instruments with samples per key for the drum ones, or as multisamples for the ones that are multisamples? I can only find a way to load individual samples. I’m completely missing something, but don’t understand what it is I’m missing to look for answers.

I‘m currently wondering the same thing … Manual or Google doesn’t tell you much about it unfortunately.

This is my favorite way to use my OP-XY at the moment. Connecting my digital piano via bluetooth midi makes for a really convenient setup. It’s almost like working with a looper. Building a track with almost no stopping time at all.

Anyways… do you think it’s bad for the pitch bend to keep the device like this for longer times?

I also think that’s not good for the pitch bend for a longer time. I would attach two self-adhesive felt pads to keep the XY slightly apart. Great setup, btw.

I doubt it’s doing any harm at all given how hard you have to press the pitch bend just to use it. It might mess with your tuning though.

Good idea with the pads. Doesn’t affect the tuning from what I’ve noticed. It’s probably fine but better safe than sorry I guess… :woman_shrugging:

Edit: See just a couple posts below if you’re having trouble loading multisample presets when using the xy.

Honestly beginning to think there’s no way to do this. Talk about a workflow killer, holy hell.

Use one of the preset makers online

I assume this is possible since @biggerovski13 has uploaded some nice samples for multi sample instruments in this thread that come with a preset file. I guess it’s there for a reason and we should be able to import this?

I’ve got multi sample presets on my XY. That’s not the problem. That’s just a matter of dragging the preset files into the right folder. The problem is I can’t figure out how to actually load them when using the instrument, I can only figure out how to load one sample at a time.

Hold shift and press the track youre on to load the preset?

Aha, didn’t realize I was supposed to hold shift and press the track button. That’s not even remotely intuitive and I must have missed this in the manual. Thanks.

So can you explain how I should do this? Where do I put the .wav files and the .preset file? Subfolders allowed?

It’s easier than it seems! I simply dragged the .preset folders into the XY’s Presets folder. That .preset folder (the one I dragged into Presets) should contain the wavs and a json file (which I think tells the XY how to use the mutisamples).

Then when you to go load them when using the xy itself, find the preset, hold shift and hit the track button. The thing I did wrong was clicking the dark encoder to go into the preset file/folder on the xy, which would be how you’d load individual files (I think).

Thanks man! I‘m trying to load some of these:

So I just download them for one of the synth and then it’s as simple as dragging the sub folders containing wav, preset and json files to an existing folder on XY called presets?

Correct! So if you grab the prophet 5 ones, don’t drag the P5 folder, drag the individual .preset subfolders containing the wavs json etc into the XY’s Presets folder. It gets cluttered quickly but I haven’t experimented with using further subfolders to organize Presets folder because of peoples’ reports across the internet yet.

Also just discovered I don’t think you need to hit shit+track to load the multisample at all, just scroll to it. and it should be loaded unless I did something and didn’t think about it.

You might be right about that !

Thanks for helping me, now I‘m excited to load these later and have all of these wonderful synths in the small XY. I’d love to see them allow at least one sub folder though …

Cheers! Stoked to hear what you do with those samples!

Same, excited for the stuff you’ll make on it. It will be a while before you‘ll hear anything from me . I think I‘ll start by sampling some vocal loops and see what I can built from there. Right now all I‘m „composing“ are lullabies that sound a bit like Fleet Foxes, not sure there will eventually be a place for synths and drums .

the last missing piece for me for the XY would be slightly more robust conditions under the trigger step component. like, im sure you can work out a way to get any combination needed out of pages, scaling, and trigger component, but im lazy, i want elektron style 6:8, 3:4 trig conditions so i can cram everything into 1 page whereever possible

edit: example, trigger step component level four has four options, trigger 1:4; trigger 1&2&3:4, trigger 2&3&4:4, or trigger 4:4. but how about just 2:4 and 3:4 as well?

as you get higher number, the number of presses to cycle through all the possibilities gets a little absurd. so maybe only break it out in depth for the multiples of 4, for songwriting’s sake? idk. or add a special input to access more complex divisions?
