OP-XY/Z User Thread

Is Jonas the name of the single dev? If so, he deserves praise. I am not sure if he is new or what, but they need to keep him around for a long time. This is the kind of speedy bug fixes and updates all of us have wanted for the last decade.

Hes been there for a long time. He is the mastermind behind the OP-Z many moons ago.

@MichaalHell do you ever sequence your A4 from the xy?

This is promising information. Then I assume that the XY will one day be as well thought out as the Z. The XY is already a great device. But it still needs some kind of fine-tuning to the workflow here and there.

Jonas mentioned to me a couple weeks ago that now that they are almost done squashing the worst of the bugs, they are going to switch to some much requested quality of life features. Yay!

omg

I gotta say one thing.

I really do love the OPxy. It’s turning into a very special device and instrument.

I had a really great session with it last night. Just it, and my iPhone to capture tons of sounds and snippets to orchestrate how i wanted.

Thank you TE if you are lurking around here. The OPxy is becoming that ‘it’ device that will change minds and turn heads. It’s a beautiful thing to watch. :facepunch:t3::level_slider::heartpulse:

So glad i got on board day one.

Yeah, an iDevice and a USB C cable paired with the XY sampler and multisampler is an infinite combo in such a compact form. Sample shaping and manipulating could use some expansion but now that a lot of the bugs are addressed, there’s really not a lot of limitations to creating unique music very quickly. If there’s one thing I’d tell people that ask, TE gear respects your time and gets out of your way while nudging you toward something musical using invisible under-the-hood bumpers/guardrails. That’s the magic. It also has some sort of sonic secret sauce that I remember from the original Digitakt. Whether that’s EQ, compression, whatever, it has a mix ready sound.

If I could add one thing besides per-sound sample shaping, it would be a live record note repeat that doesn’t rely on step components that affect every sound on a step.

yea it sounds amazin
love me XY

in the arranger I’d love to be able to move scenes around freely - sorta like the latest digi update can do with tracks. it’d be nice to be able to re-arrange em neatly so you can work out your composition easier.

also, being able to scroll thru your scenes with one of the encoders as an alternative to shift+number would be nice.

oh yea, and please give us the option of changing to playhead’s led colour. it being white, the same as active trigs gets in my way every time im step sequencing. thank you please

Just to praise the hardware some more, I think the keyboard is amazing. I’ve been doing some 1.5 hour train commutes recently and this thing has been a godsend. Wedged into my seat unable to move my elbows I can reliably place my fingers on the keyboard and easily workout melodies while staring out the window. It’s better than any other portable keyboard I’ve used so far.

Yep, perfect for trains! :ok_hand:

TE if you are lurking…and since a lot of bugs are squashed, here are my feature requests :slightly_smiling_face:

  • Global Scale Mode - Choose a scale and key, every note on any instrument track is locked to that scale (similar to digitone scale mode).

  • Chord Mode - Along with scale mode, a chord mode would elevate OP-XY to another level

  • Sample Slicing/Chopping

  • More instruments. I am still dreaming of a teenage engineering granular engine…

What would the chord modes you are asking for bring that brain doesnt cover?

You can already lock a key and scale on the brain track for instance.

Also maestro allows for fixed chord voicings. I use it a lot just to thicken up synth patches with octaves/fifths

Brain locks a key when you’re trying to transpose what you’ve already recorded. It won’t help write a song in a specific scale from scratch. Chord mode would be like the digitone 2 mode, it’ll allow you to play specific chords catered to the current scale you’re in.

Edit: my bad
First encoder switches between auto and manual, when in manual the second encoder changes Key and the third changes mode.

that changes key of the brain track only, it is not a global scale and nothing like scale mode in digitone, Ableton move, Ableton push, deluge, and almost every other groove box. All that does is force the current already recorded track to transpose to a specific scale. I want to select (for example) D#m and have every thing I play be locked to that scale, so when I select E piano - all the notes I play are in the D#m scale
