Well you’ve got global transpose within chosen scales as it is. I realise this may not be quite the same but I don’t think the OP-Z Master Track was doing anything especially fancy beyond a straight transpose, choosing inversions possibly.
I did get mileage out of changing them from pattern to pattern on the OP-Z, and you can do this instantly.
I actually use my m8 as daw at home. One feature that does not get mentioned enough, is the possibility to connect to the desktop/laptop and use a browser to control the m8 from the computer keyboard. You can navigate and play it like a midi keyboard. The desktop sees it as an interface, I love to sequence plugins and record at the same time. At the office it is my stealth music making device
Also, exporting stems as 8 separated audio tracks from M8 is really easy while on OP-XY this is not an option. To me this is clearly a strong advantage for the M8 to refine the song in a daw
I love my m8. I’ll take it to daughter’s football tomorrow. Much less weird to take out. Much easier to carry. Incredible flexibility. Sound design brilliant, and song workflow that naturally edged you to lay things out. I love op1f or deluge or ot in different moods but m8 probably my most consistent friendly thing.
sorry but i’m low-key judging everyone who mentions feeling weird about using any small gear in public. watching football is weird. most facets of society are weird. enjoy yourself! yolo
I’ve had M8 since launch used it has my primary sequencer for a few years and then sort of moved on to the cirklon… lots to love about the M8. To me though the synth engines on the M8 were never very fun to work with, it also doesn’t take in live midi recording in a way I found very useful. Overall though it is a super mature device, tons of features and what not and very few bugs.
OP xy just feels very free flowing, between track scale and the keyboard and trigger keys all being available at all times. Multisample is really a fantastic take the studio on the go type feature. I’ve noticed that switching projects is a hard stop on the device which wouldn’t really be great for live… would be lovely if they could do something about that even if stuff loaded in a little funky. Maybe you could try to fit a whole set into a project but it doesn’t really feel like it is meant to be used that way. It does load stuff up very fast though, so with some external fx box you could cover up those transitions.
@bwo what do you sequence with the circklon? I wonder if its really lives up to the pricetag.
As far as m8 vs op-xy you need both lol. The tracks you produce with each will be different and I personally find myself getting fatigued with certain workflows. So switching back and forth is gonna keep the creativity flowing.
im sequencing modular (drums fx mixing and 3 mono voices) a few multi timbrel waldorf synths, and a old korg rompler (01R/W) with it currently. It is nice because it also kind of doubles and a easy midi routing device and has tons of I/O.
In its current state no way id choose OP-XY over M8! I totally prefer XY’s general aesthetics and more tactical approach but still no way!
If TE ever decide to behave normally and put some more LFOs and Fx and the most importantly track/stem export function and a few more of good sounding synths ill consider buying it! Until then the M8, as a portable solution, is a beast compared to it!
I’m surprised someone said the m8 sounds or on par with XY, maybe I need to spend time on it more on the headless. But while I’m a fanboy, the XY demos sounds far better in my opinion.
This demo was pretty cool , and I’m not a TE fan either.
