OP-1 field

has anyone tinkered enough with the new FW to see if the “usb audio compatibility” improvements effect how it connects to TX6 or TP7?

[EDIT]Will test it on the Syntakt (it works there with an iPad for example, and is not controlled on the input menu (USB audio in is controlled in the audio settings)).

When connected to TX-6, you now can select which input should be used.

checked Mixer page on DT as well as FX routing options and audio settings (no usb src in comp sidechain neither)
the way it is connected would instantly create feedback loop though, and there’s no way to mute OP1f to its master but keep sending audio to USB for example.
maybe i’m missing something, but atm i don’t see the way to make it work on op/dt setup

interested to see your results with op/st combo

It works on the dt2, but you can’t route usb in through fx. Make sure you have usb midi and audio on, and then you an also put gain in 6 db increments on it in audio routing settings. Make sure that there you also have usb to main on.

Will check st later

i thought that was the whole point of it — to be able to route USB in through FX on the unit

I believe it’s more to send something out of dt for fx and route it back through usb to mix

haha okay i was trying a different use case then.
long story short — you can use OP1f as an fx send-return unit via usb for DT hence the rest digi-boxes i assume
not the other way round

What’s new in this update?

USB audio now works with Elektron gear (and other gear that uses 48kHz sample rate).

Latency with Elektron gear is amazing in and out! Can’t really feel it during live play. Will test some more when recording with MIDI transport.

Does anyone have an interface with more than 2 inputs to test input switching. For me it does not show any options to switch inputs, at least I could not find them.

I just confirmed that the OP-1 Field’s support for audio class devices works with Dreadbox Typhon: power, midi and sound with a single cable <3

that’s preeeetty cool!

Works great with elektron, thanks TE!

Tried connecting my OP1f with my Digitakt this morning via USB. Seems to work flawlessly, I can sample back and forth on both devices, perfectly in sync.
I also tried to setup an aggregate device with my OP1f and audio interface at 48Khz and it works too. I seem to remember that I could only use 44.1Khz to do that in the past.

Interesting. What cable would you recommend for that ?

I have a usb-b to usb-c cable that I bought from Amazon a while ago. Not sure what the brand is but there’s a Velcro strap on it that says “Cable Matters”.

Unpopular opinion here from a guitar/bass player pov.

Obviously, fretboard in 4th/guitar tuning is my playgroud. My extremely limited piano skill block me from buying ANYTHING with a compact piano keyboard with C as the lowest note

OP-1 is special. I like it not because of it’s sound, workflow or look. It’s because of it’s keyboard has the note F, instead of C, as the lowest note.

Why that’s appealling to me? As a fretboard player I can’t do all chords and scales in 12 keys like trained keyboard/piano players. I only play in C key for major, A key for minor and other arrangement in the easiest key and I use the tranpose keys whenever I play in other keys. Compact keyboard starting with C note are useless and unplayable for A minor stuff.

However, that’s the only thing I like from OP-1. It’s just too expensive and too limited even it is one of the best portable hardware devices. IMO an iPad is even more portable and way more functional in terms of music playing and production. I’m happy with the virtual midi controller app velocity keyboard. Nothing else is required

If I really need a hardware controller I can grab a Launchpad X, it serves well for both playing and production. iPad Air 12.9" is coming. for 1K budget u can get a coming 12.9" Air plus a Launchpad X mk3 and more than enough left for paid apps to fill ALL your requirement.

If I really have to get another hardware for location/situation I’m not comforable to pull out my ipad pro 12.9" I will ONLY consider to get ONE groovebox from the brand Sonicware Liven series as their keyboard also start from F, not C.

My choice will be Liven 8bit warps. It is a rare portable device that I enjoy to play alone with my iPad only studio and here is some feature as a package you can’t get from anything else at such a budget price point, just $200-ish

  • 128 step x 1 track x 128 patterns
  • 3 looper tracks you can load pattern(in chain if needed)
  • 1 looper track for external audio/gear

Why this is so special? imagine you load a rhythm patterm to 1 looper track and another harmony pattern to another looper track, you swap the harmony track and boom you have a new tune. Layering 3 looper tracks, the sequencer track and live playing give you 4 x 6 voice = 24 voice max harmony. It’s way more flexible than sequencing everything all over again every project.

For the looper track for external gear, just plug your mobile phone in as everyone has one. No sampling? Just get Koala Sampler app for $5. I push this idea even further and throw a budget Lekato looper pedal in between Liven and my mobile so I have a full feature looper track for whatever I play on my mobile.

You can get the setup new for less than $300 or half used. Think about it and forget about OP-1 at this price point. Less is really more here.

edit: typo

edit 2: Getting the app Loopy Pro is cheaper than the Lekato looping pedal but that’s limited to iphone. Also switching back and forth between the instrument/sampler app and Loopy Pro isn’t the best hand-on experience as we are talking hardware here!
