New YT video from Luca Longobardi, 1 minute sonic landscape textures, very nice:
Or like the Switch. If itâs on battery power, it will ask you to press any button 4x in a row. If you donât, it shuts down again.
the problem is asking to do this each time you power it on is strange. Just checking if you have anything connected and wait to ensure youâre really not doing anything would be enough to power off after some time. Btw, yesterday I finally received my shipping confirmation! (bought in the first 2 hours).
Lucky! I wish Iâd ordered in the first hour or two. But I was being sensible and rational and had convinced myself I didnât need it. It took me a week to come to my senses.
Its funny but the cooling off period and how it kicks in. It happens to me too.
I didnât order directly from TE but waited for it to show up in the thomann shop for the extended warranty, even though I was already sold at âstereo signal pathâ and âmultiple tape projectsâ. It should be delivered at the end of July, which is fine with me. Iâve got enough recorded material from my time with the DN (sold) and the brief period I had with the ST (returned) to work on in bitwig. This includes some song ideas, but I also sampled the hell out of both machines, mostly drum sounds to feed the op-1f and m8.
I canât remember where I got that information from, but apparently TE is working on an app that letâs you create drum sample patches for the op-1f easily, similar to the op-1 drum utility. @MichaalHell, I hope you donât mind me asking, but do you know something about that, or confirm that this is indeed the case?
An MPC does it every time you turn it on.
The power button is not enough to start it then? Which MPC? I have two, although itâs been a while I havenât powered the MPC One.
No worries
Yeah TE had stated that they are working on a drum utility app where you can make your own stereo sample kits with the Added A/B morph function
Anything with current MPC firmware, Iâd imagine. Since the day I got it (Live), when you turn it on, youâre greeted w/ a screen that says âtouch & hold to beginâ. Doing so starts a 5 second circular counter, then youâre in. If you donât âtouch and holdâ; after 10 sec. or so, itâs âGoodbye!â This happens on or off AC Power.
Iâd say that itâs only the ones that run on battery power (Live & Live II) that ask to confirm the power on, for battery saving purposes, but then again those are the only ones I have any experience of.
Bullseye. My point. Just like the OP-1 Field. Battery. Although the Live / Live II do it, even when plugged in.
Mine doesnât. But it might be due to some settings. It asks me to confirm when powering down every time, but on power-up only if I have it on battery power.
Things I wish for in a future update of OP-1f:
- undo/redo
- more tracks
- more than 8 âprojectsâ save
- more effects at the same time per sound and track.
- hold M1 you get an instant âeffectâ from all of the pages (not only one) of the Mixer changes you have done and memorized. Hold M2 you get Mixers view and can change the Mixers âeffectsâ and when release of M2 everything goes back to the way it was before. Kind of a performance mode so you can use the encoders to make effects
- overwrite/delete snapshots
- velocity sensitivity (somehow)
The Holy Grail for this device. I asked for this way back when the i had the original. Now i think its never going to happen because its always been the most requested feature and they would have implemented it by now.
I get the feeling that TE wants to make it easier to make music on the OP-1f. For example you have more help in synthmode what the encoders do. You can rename things etc. Perhaps OG OP-1 had a hardware limit to what it could do when it comes to undo/redo, but perhaps OP-1f will change that?
Undo/redo is a thing that lots of sequencers has more today than before so to follow that line (even if it´s not TE:s/everyones philosophy) would be a very good decision. I´m hopeful.
More tracks / âprojectsâ is undoubtedly a hardware memory consideration, and I doubt weâll see any change to those, in firmware updates.
I think most of what @xeamus asked will never be implemented, because there are no good button combinations available. For example, more tracks is hard to pull off because there are only four track keys. Same with adding more than one effect in synth. TE will usually not add features that require arcane button combos. They will also not deviate much from the core OP-1 model.
However, for the project count, they could easily allow people to âcut tapesâ for example, and thus allow using the available flash memory space. At this time, tapes are always 6 minutes in length, and the available disk space means you can only have so many tapes. If there was an option to, for example, cut an existing tape at 3 minutes (after the last audio section), the remaining blank 3 minutes could be used for a new tape. This is also possible with physical tape, so why shouldnât the OP-1 be able to do it?
I wish I had access to that beta forum to bring up ideas like this with TE devs. Now is the time to request this stuff.
On the type style selection screen, it shows the tape length of 6 minutes. Weird design choice to put that information there without the ability to change it, so it might come in a future firmware update.
How about we come up with a suggestion/solution together? Buttoncombo, UX improvement etc. Even if most things never will be reality I would find it fun and interesting to talk about.
