Of course we do. Its called discernment. Having highly tuned discernment faculty is what makes a good artist good. They can tell shite from brilliance.

That guardian article is fine for your sunday morning cafe middle class lets go out for brunch comfortablely well off never quite made it to hipster bastards.

It’s about what I would expect from a journalist with little background assigned to cover Machina Bristonica. Maybe a bit better than average (it would be worse in North America). I look at the Guardian daily, but I am aware of its weaknesses. As such, it is not terrible, just kind of meh, and it will probably serve regular readers who are looking for slight diversions over their breakfast.

The music I make is derivative and uninspiring … and when I listen to others it’s largely judged within the same viewpoint.
I don’t post it anywhere as it’s just adding to the deluge of trash that is filing up Spotify … why add to it

As mentioned … it’s fine for people who aren’t interested in synth stuff. The guardian is going downhill in general quality .

I mean, modular synths are extremely weird to the vast majority of people, and it’s healthy to look at it with a bit of bemused detachment once in a while. Electronic music instruments are definitely not on the radar of most news readers, so this seems like a good angle for a British paper to cover a rapidly growing event in the British music industry. At this point, I think all coverage is good coverage, especially for indie makers.

When electronic music goes into mainstream media… I always remember that cringe from 2010’s “journalists suspected that Burial was project of either Richard D. James or Norman Cook”… That level of understanding the subject

I had the same exact reaction. Even for a Sunday puff piece, this is far below the Guardian’s writing standards.

I don’t even mean informationally. It’s also a jumbled mess on a basic compositional level. No structure. Baffling flow from one paragraph to the next. Nonexistent style.
