So technically you’re pro when it fits your narrative and anti when it doesn’t.
It’s such a silly conversation!
I’m just so tired of hearing about it!

Except they do get flagged, and they do get removed.
And we’re not really talking about people who use CFW or make feature requests, there’s plenty of those people that make and share music on here.
But there’s a long history of people on here that like to moan and whinge about whatever it is they want to be mad at Elektron for this week, be that this firmware shit, specwanking or this segmentation shit, endless amounts of chat.
It just so happens that the majority of these people seem to be all but inactive when it comes to talking about, sharing or generally having anything to do with any actual music making.
Let’s hear all those CFW bangers! Share them over here:
Slop. The term you are looking for is slop. And I’m pretty sure that’s exactly what is not allowed under this policy, that’s the entire point
Also I am not seeing anywhere where I or anyone other than the slop kings - Anthropic, Open AI, etc., have benefitted., but that’s neither here nor there for the purposes of this thread.
Hate to come here and vent, but the amount of incredibly dumb stuff I’ve been seeing all over the internet on this is apparently only getting worse rather than better.
“Elektron needs to incorporate the slop mods into official firmware immediately”, apparently. Aside from the fact that slop mods look shit to me almost without exception, it’s seemingly not enough that people can go off and play with that if it’s their thing, they have to try inflicting it on the rest of us. It’s kinda like some people expect that being able to crack software someone else made - which unfortunately is now not difficult - puts them on a par with the people who made the software.
If we wanted slop mods they’re getting pushed incessantly in every space that allows them. To the point that it’s effort to try avoiding them. I guess it just doesn’t occur to these people that anyone else might look at this and want nothing to do with it.
I for one am really really glad that this wasn’t allowed to get a foothold here, because looking at other spaces where it got in and users are now trying to push it back into its own spaces, once it’s been tolerated at all it’s proving impossible to shut down the stream of constant spam and whining.
Another thing that’s striking me, basically a lot of the mental reservations people seem willing to make over this comes down to kidding themselves that they’re getting something of value for free.
All kinds of excuses getting thrown around for stuff that’s flagrantly shitty and crosses way over the line of modding gear in any reasonable sense of the term. Or stuff that’s blatantly sub-par - “it’s free, why are you complaining”. (a) it’s only free because it’s being subsidised by some of the worst people on the planet, i.e. the Anthropics etc., and (b) shitty is shitty, that’s not an excuse.
The absolute worst I’ve seen recently is “check out my clone of [popular eurorack sequencer]”, which uses the name of the device, its faceplate, and it turns out from reading the thread it doesn’t work. The guy who made it didn’t know the difference because he just ran the manual through an LLM and then ran that through Claude Code. And getting super defensive while failing to understand why pretending it was a clone of [sequencer] ripping off its name and faceplate was maybe not great. But notably a couple of defenders popping up to say this was actually good because hey, “free stuff”.
Sorry for ranting but my God what a dumb era this is.
Exactly… Even with the samples and cycles having identical hardware, how would you handle all the labels being wrong when you flash the other firmware? Sell an overlay? It’s just messy and not Elektron’s style.
A part of EZBOT’s summary of his interpretation of his conversation with Elektron -
… but ultimately they come from the background of hacking, and they’re ok with hacking because that’s what developed the whole company to begin with. And so, they’re like, I can’t say you have their support, but they’re not butthurt about the idea that people are doing what they’re doing because they get it. You know, I think they’re probably doing it themselves, right?
This is where they come from. They’re probably psyched to be able to this kind of stuff very quickly themselves. And I think that kind of sums up the conversation, essentially. I think that we’ll probably see some of these features that people are coding up on boxes make their way over to official firmwares.
I’d like to be able to “like” this comment 10 times …
So much more refreshing to read than all the conspiracy theories.
