the Long Road to Song Mode

it’s a conspiracy so you have to push more buttons more often and the machine breaks very marginally faster, causing you to buy a new one

even if so, I don’t personally see anything wrong with that. they want to make money and we want them to stay in business. having different tiers of products means more customers so they can do that. it’s no different than most companies, really.

where are you getting $60 drum machines, complete with song mode? I want one!

I disagree, it’s not dumb to research before spending your hard earned money in something. Specially if as you say, some companies deliberately leave features out, isn’t even more necessary to do your research first?

Yes, you’re right. It’s not on you to research a product before spending 700 euros on a product. People are just being silly if you ask me.

Well yes, it’s necessary when dealing with obnoxious corporate companies like Korg or Roland. I was just mistakenly under the impression that elektron was more user oriented like moog use to be.

My point is that it shouldn’t be necessary to check, and that’s it’s borderline unethical for companies to leave out essential basic features that musicians depend upon and which have long been an industry standard.

Having to check if a groove box has song mode is like having to check that it can run on 120v ac, or that the OS has english. It’s like having to check that a guitar includes a volume knob. Like there’s no logical reason why it wouldn’t, and it’s downright stupid if it dons’t. And the only logical reason to leave it out is to get you to buy another $800 box if you want to get it.

Typically you pay for what you get - with smaller companies you pay a bit of a premium mind you.

I had beef with the lack of scale per track on the Digitakt. Sold it, bought an Octatrack MK2 and couldn’t be happier. My 4 bar loops have never sounded so fresh :joy:

And what do you think Elektron are, a socialist co-operative?
